I came across Holly Gerth’s site and loved her Coffee For Your Heart series. It’s a weekly prompt and just a great way to pour your thoughts and heart out, and that’s what I am going to do today. I hope to be able to join in weekly, but I knew I wanted to join in this week because the prompt was “You Are Loved”
I wanted this prompt to be directed toward my kids. As a parent, there are times I am frustrated or stressed and snap at you or raise my voice. I have, in the years I’ve been a mom, had some not so great moments of yelling and saying things I couldn’t take back. When I think of the times I have hurt you with words, because I didn’t take a step back to calm down, my heart breaks. As I grow in this parenting journey, I can’t take back what I said or how I reacted, but I can ask you to forgive me and promise to do better.
So, not only today, but every day for the rest of our lives together, I want you to always know much you are loved. You are loved and I want you to know I am so thankful God chose me to be your mom. You are loved, enough for me to know and admit I’ve made mistakes. You are loved so much, I want to always work on being a better parent. You are loved and that makes me strive to be the best I can be, in hopes that I can show you to never give up. You are loved ,which will make me push you to be your best, because I know what you are capable of.
I want you to know you are loved and so I will think before I speak. I will only say things that uplift you. I will lead a life of holiness, because I want you to be able to follow my example. I will be there for you when you are afraid. I will be there to pray with you about any and every situation life throws your way. Because you are loved, I will have rules, rules that are meant to keep you safe, not because I don’t want you to have any fun. You may not always understand why I won’t let you do things, watch certain movies, listen to certain music, or act certain ways but know everything I do, is because you are loved.
Every decision I make for your life, is because you are loved. God gave me three precious gifts, he entrusted me to lead you and guide you on this journey called life, until you can make responsible decisions for yourself. Because you are loved, I will follow God’s prompting when it comes to everything in your life. I am not perfect, I will still make mistakes but I only hope you know that I will do everything in my power to be the best mom to you in every way….because you are loved.

**This is a piece I wrote back in 2014, but it was so personal I had to share it again with my readers. I hope it will touch you and you will take time to write letters to your children!

Toni- thanks for stopping by my “place” today. It’s always great joy to meet new people in the blogging world. I love that you wrote your post today directly to your children. You have a beautiful family 😉
Thank you so much! I agree it’s always nice to meet new people, to connect with others. Looking forward to stopping by more down the road
I love it, what a great series/meme!
Beautiful letter, Toni. And what a great series!
Beautiful post Toni and how special that your kids can return here and read this anytime.
I can so relate to this, Toni. I’ve been going through a lot of things recently and have found myself being so short with my husband and son. I hate that I’ve been like that because I love them both more than anything thing in this world. Love this meme.
Such a beautiful letter Toni. Thanks for sharing and starting a great series!
That’s a lovely message to your kids! I think we, as parents, can forget to just stop and enjoy our kids. They need more than just an occasional hug and kiss but to really be constantly reassured that we do love them. It’s so warming that you make yourself vulnerable by apologizing for your own mistakes and thanking them for the positive effect they have on you!
That’s beautifully said, Toni. I am sure many of us could echo your heart, thoughts and words.
What a wonderful post! I love this so much.
Your family is beautiful, Toni!
This is such a beautiful letter. It’s something your kids are sure to treasure forever.
I thought about writing letters like this to my daughter…I’m a littler superstitious though– but I tell her multiple time per day how much she is loved.
Beautiful letter, Toni — and, because of some frustrating days lately, it’s one I could nearly have written my self!
