Because I took my kids to meet Spongebob and you didn’t. When I say my kids love Spongebob, let me put it into terms my readers will understand…Spongebob to them is what NKOTB is to me. Understand???
I hadn’t heard of this Spongebob visit until my oldest came home from school that day and said “Mom, Spongebob is going to be at Fun City today”. Now while yes he will watch the occasional Spongebob episode, he is not really a big into Spongebob fan. I think he just wanted the free trip, he knew I would not be able to turn down, to Fun City.
When we get to Fun City they kids are already about jumping out of their seats from excitement. You see, Fun City is a place we frequent often. What is a Fun City you ask? Basically a generic Chuck E Cheese. An emporium of fun that you can let your kids run loose and never have to keep any eye on them…okay totally kidding about the not watching them part. So back to the story, anytime we go to Fun City they are beside themselves and today was no different until….they learned of Spongebob entering the building.
At the very moment I told them, you could have heard a pin drop. Breath held, Heart pounding, Eyes wide with anticipation of that first glimpse of Spongebob. Then we get in line and wait…and wait…and wait…and wait. The Spongebob leaves the room!!!!!! WHAT!!!!! Oh no you aren’t leaving Mister Spongey Square Pants, you most certainly will see my children, or I, the best mother in the world, will bring out the blow dryer and dry you up Mister. A few minutes later I see him return and all is right in the world again. No more rabid mother trying to assasinate the yellow sponge.
Every so slightly we inch foward until we are at the window of the room he is in and if my kids had any bladder control problems they surely would have tinkled themselves during this moment. The anticipation almost too much to bear, hoping in place unable to stand still. Feet away from meeting the big celebrity in their lives. It was sheer joy in those moments for me because I had done something that brought a huge smile to their face and a bright light in their eyes and I was at that moment, the best mom ever. Grins a blazing as we finally made it to Spongebob and the awe of being so close to this celebrity had them a bit hesitant until he started doing the crazy dance, then it was all about getting close to Spongebob. Pictures were taken, hugs were given and whistles were handed out (which btw I think was a horrible idea, thanks Spongebob people, my kids still screech through the house with those horrible things) and we left the room.
3 happy kids, the best mom ever and a little bit of time left to play in Fun City! All in all it really was their perfect day and a day I became “the best Mom ever”. Here is a 4.5 minute clip of the visit and the excitement they had meeting this celebrity. OH and beware I figured since we were meeting an underwater creature I needed to give the whole sea sick vibe to the video, so it moves around a lot. Okay so I just couldn’t keep it steady but who gives a crap, I am the best mom ever remember ๐
