Kid’s Corner On The HTC Windows Phone 8x #VZWA

I previously announced my next leg in the VZWA programa and my kids have been pretty busy putting one feature to great use. That feature is “Kid’s Corner”.

HTC Kid's Corner

Kid’s Corner is a way for kids to have fun on my phone without, yours truly here, having to worry about them messing with my settings or accidentally deleting an app. I have to admit there have been quite a few times when they have been on my current device and while trying to add something ended up deleting an app. Then I have to figure out which game/app it was and re-add. It’s not something that hurts me to do but more of an annoyance LOL. Thanks to Kid’s Corner on my HTC Windows Phone 8x this annoyance is something that I don’t have to worry about.

Easy to set up Kid’s Corner are added controls for us parents to manage what my (or any other) children have access to when using the mobile device. It’s easily activated by swiping left on the lock screen. I can configure applications, music, movies, games that I want my child to have access to and all my goodies are protected by the lock screen and PIN.

Now the great thing about Kid’s Corner is that, while the name says “Kid’s”, it’s not just for kids. This is also great for someone who wants to make a call but you don’t want them to have access to your address book. It’s really just a bit of extra protection for both yourself and whomever you are letting play on or borrow your phone.

Setting up Kid’s Corner is so easy a child (pun totally intended) could do it. You simply go into your settings and then into Kid’s Corner (as seen above) and pick which apps, games, music, etc. are available in the Kid’s Corner area. You can also pick the name and photo that is displayed, which I obviously left at Kid’s Corner, I was not fighting a battle of putting one kids name over the other and accused of having a favorite LOL. Your kids can, however, personalize the background and colors to their liking.

There is no access to the Windows Phone Store in Kid’s Corner so there isn’t a chance of an accidental purchase of a video, that new One Direction album, or any games. Everything that is going to be added has to be done under the main screen. When you need your phone back or the kiddos, by some miracle, tire of playing on it to get back to your stuff you simply hit the power button. Hit it again and you are back to your main lock (or PIN) screen where you will go right to your stuff.

While I am still trying to figure out this phone (learning curve after iOS and Android platforms) this is one feature I love that my current phone and previous VZWA device don’t have. Keep watch next week for game talk and why my son loves a certain feature that has to do with gaming.

What is your favorite feature on your smartphone?
