Introducing American Girl’s Newest Additions: Cecile & Marie-Grace

It’s a first! American Girl unveils two historical characters sharing one unforgettable journey through New Orleans in 1853.

American Girl takes us back in time to 1853 to meet Cecile Rey and Marie-Grace Gardner. Two girls from very different backgrounds come together to make unforgettable memories. Showing the power of friendship and community while reaching across the boundaries of race and class to help family, friends and their beloved city during a time of need.

Two new historical figures in the American Girl line, Cecile and Marie-Grace, will be featured in a six book series. I had the opportunity to get a first look into the first two books of the series. “Meet Marie-Grace” (love the name and will absolutely have to get that doll for my daughter someday seeing as it has both our middle names) and “Meet Cecile”. In these two books we will be introduced to the girls and watch as they get to know one another and form an unlikely friendship during this era.

My daughter and I are reading this together and while we haven’t finished yet she is loving the story. I love also that it lets her look into the past. She is excited to finish the books and get the rest of the series when it comes out August 30. The four other books in the series are “Marie Grace & The Orphans”, “Troubles for Cecile”, “Marie-Grace Makes A Difference”, and “Cecile’s Gift”. Each story takes a look back at the past and how two little girls worked together to make a difference.

I have to say I love that American Girl has these books because they can not only be a form of quality time together as reading but also used as a teaching tool. Cecile’s stories are written by Denise Lewis Patrick and Sara Masters Buckley takes on Marie-Grace. American Girl partnered with 13 year old Kate Connick and her father Harry Connick Jr debut original song “A Lot Like Me” to go with the series.

You can pre-order before the August 30 release at American Girl retailers and the American Girl website. The line will officially launch at all American Girl outlets on August 30, 2011.

We added both dolls to our collection! I still have my Samantha doll from when I was little! I begged for it for months!
