We are a huge family game night family. We love to sit around and play games. Sometimes it’s a sing off on the PS3, sometimes it’s a board game and other times it’s a dice or card game. We always end up having a blast. One of the games we haven’t actually played in quite sometime is a classic jazzed up. UNO is a game most of us have played either as kids or adults and for me, it never gets old.
I love playing this game with my kids and when Mom Central had a new version of UNO called UNO Roboto come out I jumped at the chance to get to try it. UNO Roboto gives a new twist to a classic game. You can see the normal UNO cards are included, along with a new little robot friend and 4 new cards known as the “house rules”. The basis of the game is the same as the classic version, you want to be the first to get rid of all your cards. You simply have to stay with the same color or number but each person dreads when they get a WILD +4 or a draw 2 card.
How UNO Roboto differs from the classic version. First, each player gets to record their name and no matter who the dealer is Roboto picks who goes first. After each player records their name, you can choose to have a “house rule”. A house rule can be anything from counting from 10 to 1 backwards to acting like a chicken. Once the game has started you play like the classic UNO and put cards down according to color or number. After each turn you press Roboto’s head. Out of the blue Roboto can tell you to trade cards with another player, have a duel, or ask you to play another card. Roboto definitely keeps you on your toes.
A sum of the UNO Roboto game:
- Roboto can call our random directions, duels, or the house rule at anytime so be ready
- Turn up the volume as loud as it can go when you are playing, it can get a little loud from laughter and you want to be able to hear what the next rule or duel is
- Classic UNO play, be the first one with cards out to win, don’t forget to call UNO when you get down to one card.
- Retails for $29.99
- Includes classic UNO deck (108 cards) PLUS 4 house rule cards
- For ages 7+ (though My 6 year old daughter played and loved it) and 2-10 players.
- Mattel & Toys R Us have a special promotion going on where you can receive a free photo book.
When I say we had a blast, I mean it. I only was able to snap a few photos of the kids in action because I wanted to play along with them and I can’t photo and play, so I chose to play. But you can see the smiles and fun with two of my kiddos:
UNO Roboto is definitely an idea for this holiday season not just for the kids but the whole family. It will bring smiles to the table (or floor in our case) when this classic game with a twist comes to your home. Don’t forget to check out UNO on facebook and see the current happenings they have.
I wrote this review while participating in a campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of UNO Roboto and received a product sample to facilitate my review and a promotional item to thank me for taking the time to participate. All opinions are my own. For more please see my disclosure under my pr tab.
