Dimension U Helps Learning Become A Little More Fun

Homework and studying outside of school is definitely not my kids idea of fun but it’s something they have to do to make good grades. Homework is just one part of it, learning daily and keeping your mind fresh with the things you are being taught is another and that is what I want to talk to you about today. What if there was a way that your kids could have fun and learn at the same time! With Dimension U that’s possible!

Dimension U is the company behind the award-winning Dimension series of educational video games and rewards system where students practice core K-12 subjects including math, literacy, science and history. Dimension U is focused on delivering innovative and effective technology-based educational tools for students at school and now available at home.

Their mission is to engage and motivate students so that they choose to devote more of their time to even the most difficult subjects. Standards-based, research driven and proven to delight, these games offer all of the action adventure fun associated with commercial video games, integrated with truly effective educational content.

We recently had a chance to try out Dimension U. My oldest, who is in 6th grade, signed up (under my watchful eye of course) and started browsing around. He started by creating his account, picking his online name, creating an avatar and then jumped right into the 6th grade algebra math games. I was watching as he played and realized I, myself, need a refresher course in math so this will be perfect for him to help him retain information he is learning and keep it fresh in his head. Unfortunately for me, I realized how long ago I learned math and pretty much everything I learned has left my brain. Time for the kid to teach the mom!

Dimension U lets you play games and answer questions based on grade levels (we won’t even go there with what level I had to go down to). He picked his game and went to playing. I loved watching him have to remember things he has learned to progress and reach a goal You try to reach certain goals and when you have reached your goal 3 times you get asked a question

If you are a parent this is the part that comes in handy for you. As a parent you can set an “answer right” goal and set up an educational allowance. It allows them to earn funds when they get X amount of questions right so they can save up for really cool stuff. See this video that explains Dimension U (and the allowance) a little more:

So far we are loving Dimension U. It’s a great way to keeps kids attention, keep what they are learning fresh in their brain because we all know how easy it is to shut down when you are having to read and reread to remember stuff. If you are constantly using what you are learning it’s much less easy to forget. I may even have to sign up for an account myself so I can get some refreshing in the math department.

I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for DimensionU. I received a free trial of DimensionU to facilitate my review and a promotional item as a thank-you for participating.
