Why My Daughter Wants To Go To Texas!

As we were driving to gymnastics the other day my daughter and I were talking. Well, she was talking and I was getting a word in here or there. She has a lot to say 90% of the day. I swear she was born part energizer bunny. As we were driving we have a conversation that goes a little something (or a lot something actually) like this…

Bella: “Mom, we need to take a trip to see Mimi (her grandmother) in Texas.”

Me: “We will, one day we will go see Mimi”

Bella: “Well I’d really like to go see Mimi so I can go to Texas because I want to see what Texas is like”

Me: “Okay, we will go see Mimi, but Bella you do know Texas is a lot like Florida right?”

Bella: “No Mom, it’s not!  We have a beach and trees”

Me: “So does Texas, except their sand is not white like ours”

Bella: “But Mom we have grass and houses in Florida”

At this point I am wondering what in the world Texas is.  Which after a few moments I got an answer too.

Me: “Bella, they have grass and houses in Texas too, I promise you could go down a street there and think you were going down a street here.”

Bella:  But Mom, it’s really hot there, they don’t have roads” (at this point I am giggling)

Me:  “Bella, yes they do have roads, we would have to take a road to get to Mimi”

Bella:  “We would?”

Me:  “Yes, we would drive all the way from here to Texas in our van and we would see houses, trees, grass, cars and the beach”

Bella: “Mom I don’t think there can be grass and trees there, I really don’t.  Mom I really really want to go to Texas and see Mimi because I have never been to the desert before”

At that point I actually busted out laughing, much to her dismay.  I had to explain to her yes Texas got hot but where Mimi lived was not a desert.  It took a little convincing but I finally did have her understanding that they in fact have cars, roads, houses, trees, grass, water, malls, restaurants, movie theaters and much more.  The kid cracks me up.

So has your child ever wanted to go anywhere because they thought it was something much different than what it really was?

The Old Texas in certain parts was probably much like a desert. Until about 25 years ago where I live in Colorado was pretty desert like, well lots of it is still really. If we get put on watering restrictions this summer, it will really look like it again. People think of Colorado as beautiful mountains, but not all parts of it are.
Wish I could afford to go to Florida again. Miss going there every other year as I did when I was a kid, until I was sixteen and decided it was more important to stay home and work during school break.
