I have so much to share with you about my set visit, last November, to Marvel’s newest hit, Agent Carter…so let’s get started:
The Fashion
Okay, they had me at fashion. Getting to chat with Costume designer, Gigi Melton, was fascinating. When you watch shows, you don’t realize how much work goes into getting the costuming just right. With Agent Carter being set back in time, they can’t just go grab clothes off the rack…current fashion does not fit with the 1940’s looks! According to Gigi, a lot of research goes into costuming. Whether they hare sourcing vintage fabrics or looking for actual vintage outfits in those retro shops, they do their best to be true to the time period. And what a great job they have done, which you know if you watched Agent Carter last week!
Hayley’s costumes are fitted exactly to her, which she said made her appreciate tailored clothes much more…and now adds them to her own wardrobe. They also have to have several ‘copies’ of each costume! Why? Glad you asked. The main actor needs their outfit, then for the actors who have stunts, their stunt double needs one…and of course you have to have the ‘after’ outfit. After all those fights, you can’t expect the outfit to look just as new and clean as before the fight right?!

Chatting With Hayley Atwell
During the set visit we also got to have a few minutes with Hayley Atwell, who plays the kick-butt Agent Carter! She was filming, but we had enough time to find out a few tidbits. The fighting you see, didn’t go smoothly at first. She took training for unarmed combat and stage fighting, but even so, she managed to hit an actor in the face and kick a stunt man where it hurts worst. She is thrilled to be teaming up with Marvel for this adventure! We tried to get her to give away some secrets but no such luck, so just like the rest of you I will have to wait to find out what happens!

How neat, I think Hayley Atwell is amazing and loved her Captain America character has her own show now!
That’s awesome! Too bad you couldn’t wear the red hat! Must have been super fun visiting the set and meeting the actress.
