Get ready for the newest hero…or in this case heroine, as Marvel presents Agent Carter tonight on ABC!  You might remember Agent Peggy Carter from the Captain America movies…well now you get to enjoy her each week, thanks to the ABC series. Agent Carter begins her new life, as she tries to get over losing Captain America, himself. While we know he survives, she doesn’t. That means, we will watch as she takes on the bad guys as she moves forward, doing it all while dressed to the nines.

As part of my LA adventure, back in November, I had the chance to screen bits of the episode we will all get to see tonight on ABC!  I also had the chance to chat with Louis D’Esposito (Co-President of Marvel Studios and Executive Producer movies such as Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers 2: Age of Ultron) and Jeph Loeb (Marvel’s Head of TV and worked on several major comic book titles) about the series.

When they decided to move forward with the 7 part television event, they knew an intricate part of making it a success would be casting Peggy Carter correctly.  Of course, they wanted Hayley Atwell, so with fingers crossed they reached out to her with the idea. Thankfully, she was fully on board…I could not imagine anyone else being Agent Carter.

In fact Jeph said “Hayley Atwell is a big star and she who is both likable and fun. Because of who she is, it makes you want to go on this journey with her.” He also said “Television is about the intimacy of the character. A great character is someone you want to see week after week and tell your friends about.” I whole heartedly agree with him on both accounts, she is the reason this show is going to be so successful!

If you haven’t seen the movies that’s okay. Per my inside contacts (otherwise known as Jeph and Louis), the premiere of the series, will have some flashbacks to get you up to speed. Continuing the interview it was so neat to find out how many people go into bringing it to life. They wanted writers that mixed action and humor, so it’s going to keep your attention.

They also said they wanted to be sure to empower women. Because Marvel is known for it’s super heroes, I love that they take the stance to make a ‘regular’ woman, trying to figure out life after heartbreak, into something amazing. The show is going to have quite a few familiar faces…I totally admit I fan-girled when one of those faces popped up…from a certain show called One Tree Hill.

HAYLEY ATWELL

MARVEL’S AGENT CARTER – “Marvel’s Agent Carter,” starring “Captain America’s” Hayley Atwell, follows the story of Peggy Carter. It’s 1946, and peace has dealt Peggy Carter a serious blow as she finds herself marginalized when the men return home from fighting abroad. Working for the covert SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve), Peggy must balance doing administrative work and going on secret missions for Howard Stark all while trying to navigate life as a single woman in America, in the wake of losing the love of her life – Steve Rogers. Inspired by the feature films “Captain America: The First Avenger” and “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” along with the short “Marvel One-Shot: Agent Carter.” (Marvel/Katrin Marchinowski)
