Ok, so Sponegebob…catchy songs for sure. If they had just a Patrick show, I would be all about it. Spongebob is limited in my household though the five Y/O loves it. We usually have DKids on (Discovery Kids) so Bindy is a favorite (non cartoon) Dino Sapien (non cartoon) Cartoon Network is completely BLOCKED! PBS shows are always welcome…Hello…I grew up on public television we didn’t have cable back then. Noggin is also okay since the cartoons aren’t totally annoying and are fairly educational.
Whatever happended to Scooby Doo and Josie and the Pussycats??? I put up with Sponge Bob as my son seems to know all of the words to every episode. But the rest of the cartoons, I don’t have a clue about them. Can’t help you on this one.
You crack me with talking about the cartoons 🙂 and I would tend to agree with you on most of the ones you mentioned. I never allowed my kids to watch Spongebob.
Phineas and Ferb is probably the one I see them watching the most and I find myself cracking up listening to it! Scoody Doo is still a big favorite! I personally like The Penquins of Madagascar – only because Madagascar was one of my favorite movies :).
My kids are teenagers (oldest one is 19, youngest is 16). 16-year old watches sponge bob. Yeah. He’s strange. Actually, I believe he watches sponge bob because it comes on right before iCarly. But you’re right, that laughter really gets to me as well. Anyway, when mine were young, we were a Nickelodeon family back then as well. They used to watch Rugrats, Doug (we used to love to watch Doug), Ah! Real Monsters, pretty much that whole lineup they had back then. Their interest started tapering off around the time Catdog made its appearance. Personally, I’ve always been a Scooby Doo fan myself.
hee hee Toot & Puddle (makes me giggle) and yes, ridiculous name for a cartoon.
My kids LOVE Dragon Tales. BOTH of them will drop everything to watch! We also love Mickey Mouse “Bickey Mouse” in our house. And they also like Sesame Street, but that is the one I hate. I just cant take it who the people always look at the camera and then turn their heads. It makes me so angry for some reason. (but thats not really a cartoon huh?) I also feel ya on the Sponge Bob.
No cartoons today can ever replace 80’s cartoons! The Snorkels, Rainbow Bright, Transformers, Thundercats, GI Joe, X-Men, The Wuzzles, There was a Punky Brewster cartoon for a short while, I’m trying to think of some of my other favorites and I’m coming up blank. Oh The Ninja Turtles! Nowadays the Ninja Turtles fight in space. I’m not kidding. How sad is that?
I really hate Wonder Pets because the duck Ming-Ming has a speech problem and my kids are copying it to annoy me…
“This is Sewious!”
I miss Jem and the Holograms… I loved that show… Jem was truly outrageous.
The best cartoons are The Simpsons, Family Guy, and Southpark.
These are the best shows for your kids to watch because of the smart writing and strong moral lessons. While some may cringe at the delivery these are some of the best written, clever, and morally unambiguous shows available today.
Don’t worry about the language. There is no such thing as a “bad” word. If you forbid them you give them power.
Love your blog.
You crack me up Toni! 🙂 Once again, sadly I have never seen the cartoons you mentioned and most I had never heard of (I assume due to the difference in our kids ages). We never watched much TV. My boys watched 3 shows to be exact. Thomas the Tank Engine, Reading Rainbow, and Arthur. I actually did not mind any of them. I know way back they were on PBS, and some of the Thomas songs got stuck in my head and we always bought books after seeing Reading Rainbow, Arthur made me hungry (he dad was always making baked goods).
We love Phineas and Ferb here. I have been a fan of Scooby Doo for a long time and I think Space Ghost can be funny at times.
