So the big debate on a mom’s forum I am a part of is how do you pronounce these 4 words: Pen Pin Ben Bin. So go ahead and listen, this is how I say them:
Now I am right, we all know this is the case as it always is, however for my enjoyment I think you all should post a vlog with yourself saying these words so I can say “ha” or hang my head in shame when others prove me wrong. That happens more often than I would like to admit so I just pretend I don’t hear them when that happens LOL.
A few others I say are wash, but sometimes it comes out with an r in it…warsh. My moms says envelope …envelote LOL. I say fixing…like I am fixing to leave. I say cain’t (yes I know it’s not a real word but I don’t care). The funniest part of my mispronunciations is I freaking rocked in English, I passed with flying colors it was my best subject. Oh and what about pecan do you say it pee-can or pee-kahn (thanks to Brandi for that pronunciation). I say the former most of the time. Now it’s your turn…
What are some words you pronounce or words people you know say that you think they say wrong?

LMAO, you sound just like me. They are all pronounced the same and I SO say cain’t. “I’m FIXING to go to the store and I CAIN’T get my shoes on.”
I say PEE-CAN like all true Georgians.
Drat I wont be able to view that til my computer gets fixed at home, but here is my pin pen/bin ben pronounciations. Enjoy. LOL
pin = safety pin
pen = something you write with
bin = a storage container
Ben = a man/boy’s name
My problem is Crayon I pronounce it like Cran (as in cranberry), but like you, I never knew that I did not pronounce it properly until someone pointed it out. So I must go now and pick-up the kids crans
Isn’t everyone in the south fixin’ to do something? And I cain’t do nothing right?! LOL I say the same darn things! Everything just comes out with a twang or sounding odd. My g’s sound like k’s if I even put g’s on the end of my words!
LMAO! This is cracking me up! I say the words like they are spelled…I think…I would do a Vlog, but I dont know how to upload videos to the computer!
LOL Toni! You have me sitting at the computer saying “Pin, Pen, Bin, Ben”. I would tape myself but I won’t subject ya’ll to my second trimester double chin. Anyway, I definitely notice a difference when I say each word. I do however say “fixin’ to” and usually I make it all one word- fixin’a. And I don’t say PeeCAN, that annoys me almost as much as when people call a grocery cart a basket or buggy. LOL!
I pronounce pIn and pEn and bIn and bEn exactly like Jess does…sorry, Toni! ๐
The thing here in PA that ‘bugs’ me is how they say ‘you’ in a couple of different ways…like ‘youins’ (you-ins) or youse (use) Example: ‘How are youins doing today?’ ‘Are youse guys going to such and such?’ And they always insist on putting an ‘s’ at the end of words – like Wal*Mart…they always call it ‘Wal*Marts’ ๐ Since I don’t talk like people around here (I moved here from Seattle about 11 years ago), I still get the comment ‘Youins aren’t from around here, are ya?’ ๐
Fun post! Love it! ๐
I’m a Bostonian. So Pahk the Cah in Havad Yad. You girls don’t even get that huh? R’s completely disappear once your in the city of Boston.
LOL Toni, Love ya!! hehehe great vlog!
I say them pretty differently! LOL!
I pronounce Pin and Bin where it literally sounds like I am saying the word in after a P or B sound. So, P-In and B-In.
I pronounce Pen and Ben with an “eh” sound in the middle. So P-Eh-N and B-Eh-N.
They sound similar, but Pen and Ben have a long e sound I guess you could say.
When I say Bin it sounds exactly like the word been. As in, “I have been (b-in) there before.” When I say the word Ben it doesn’t sound like the word been at all.
Anyway, I didn’t do a vlog about it, but I thought I’d comment.
Ok, I will vlog this one later. I say them the same as you. NO different!
Linda
