How fun is this! I was reading The Neurotic Mom and decided to jump on her bandwagon this Thursday. Throwback Thursday is when basically you get to go back in time and talk about all the things you loved “back in the day”. I bet you can’t guess what I am posting about for my first edition of Throwback Thursday (I think I may even tie Thursday 13 in with it)….New Kids on the block! Oh and if you read all the way down you get to see 3 more crazy videos of me at the concert. These are the ones from when they were not even on stage yet and I was still in freak out mode!
Oh how I loved these boys when I was 10:
Assembled in Boston in 1984 (goodness I was only 5!!!!!)by producer Maurice Starr, the members consist of brothers Jordan and Jonathan Knight, Joey McIntyre, Donnie Wahlberg, and Danny Wood. The group went on to sell over 70 million albums worldwide, generated hundreds of millions of dollars in concert revenues, and paved the way for acts like Backstreet Boys, Take That and *NSYNC. They won two American Music Awards in 1990 for Favorite Pop/Rock Band, Duo, or Group and Favorite Pop/Rock Album for Hangin’ Tough. After having disbanded in 1994, several attempts were made to get the group back together, all of them unsuccessful. They reunited in 2008 and took on a new style, released a new album, and embarked on a concert tour in the fall. The album, entitled The Block was released on September 2, 2008.
Actually in the very beginning it was not those 5, it was actually Danny, Donnie, Jordan, Jon (sigh), and Mark (Donnie’s brother, who went on to become Marky Mark). Mark was not all about the “bubble gum” pop image that was forming so he left and was replaced by Jamie Kelly, one of Donnie’s childhood friends. He was let go for lack of dicipline and was eventually replaced with 12 year old Joey McIntyre. Their first album in 1986 basically bombed. So in 1987-88 they spent most of their time in the studio recording their second album…Hangin Tough. Their first single was “Please Don’t go Girl” followed by “You’ve Got It (The Right Stuff)” which MTV took notice of and played so it is what essentially shot the boys into stardom.
Albums that followed were:
Merry, Merry Christmas
Step By Step
Face The Music
Unfortunately the group disbanded in 1994. All the members went on to have lives, children and build businesses and careers. Some stayed in the music industry while others went a completely different direction. Then my dreams came true because in 2008 the band reunited!!!!!!!!!!! And look how handsomely these boys turned into men:
They started touring again and their album “The Block” is just as awesome as the albums as they had back in the day…just all grown up. I was lucky enough to attend the concert in Dallas and as you saw in my previous NKOTB post I was going crazy during their first song on stage oh but you didn’t get to see what led up to that…so now for your viewing pleasure…Toni having a heart attack waiting for NKOTB to come on stage:
*WARNING: THE SCREAMS ARE DEAFENING AND VERY SHRILL!!!*
