Ice Age 4 is just around the corner with the release set for July 13 and recently I had a chance to interview The Wanted, whose single “Chasing The Sun” is the title track for the film. I have to admit my inside tween came out when I had the chance to interview The Wanted.
Who doesn’t love a cute boy band and the fact their single is the title track for one of my kids favorite movie series is just icing on the cake. Once we got on the phone I knew this was going to be a fun interview. They were hysterical and they had adorable accents. My questions are featured with a * because there were 5 of us on the interview so if you don’t see the * that was one of the other bloggers questions.
Q: What do you think makes Chasing the Sun such a good fit for the movie Ice Age?
The Wanted: The song is full of energy and we felt it fit a specific scene in the movie like a glove.
*Q: If you were any character in Ice Age 4, which would you be and why?
The Wanted: I would be Ethan. He’s played by Drake. He’s quite young, popular and very handsome. [MAX]
The Wanted: I think I’d be either Crash or Eddie, because like they say in the movie, they don’t really worry about too much, and they’re not that smart. So, I think that’s pretty much me. [Laughter] [JAY]
The Wanted: I would have to say Diego. [SIVA]
The Wanted: Well, we know who Nathan will be. He should be Stefan! Nathan without a shadow of a doubt visually and personality-wise-Would be the ape–. [TOM describing NATHAN]
The Wanted: He always misreads situations.
The Wanted: Wow.
The Wanted: He always says the wrong thing… Kind of goofy.
The Wanted: Wow.
The Wanted: And some would say, not me, a little bit adorable.
The Wanted: Wow.
The Wanted: Well, I would be Scrat because, just by describing it–He’s a little scrat-ish.
*Q: On a little less serious note, when my kids find a movie they love, they’ll watch it over and over and. If you had to pick a movie from your childhood that was going to be on repeat for the rest of your life, what would it be?
The Wanted: Mine would be The Land Before Time. It was actually kind of similar to Ice Age. One of the characters gets separated from his family, and he meets a strange group of friends that are all different species, and I just thought it was beautiful. I used to watch that on VHS every morning. [JAY]
The Wanted: Jaws would be mine. [MAX]
The Wanted: Home Alone. If we could choose both Home Alone 1 & 2, that would be great, but the first one especially because Kevin is a little terror just like I was. [TOM]
The Wanted: The first, original, the Tim Burton version of Batman. It was awesome. I used to watch it every day. [SIVA]
The Wanted: And this is going to sound like I’m just saying this, but soulfully, it would be the first Ice Age. [NATHAN]
The Wanted: I will always be a child at heart. I’m like Peter Pan. [NATHAN]
*Q: All kids have dreams when they’re growing up. And when they are young, their dreams are huge. And as the grow up they tend to think, well, maybe I can’t do this or that, maybe that’s too big, I’ll just kind of, you know, trim this and make it smaller and fit it into a smaller box. What would you say to kids so that they will keep their dreams big and really go for the things that they want in life?
The Wanted: My mom always told me to follow my dreams. Just make sure you’ve got a backup plan always as you’re going through life. I always wanted to be a singer since I was 15 and started playing guitar. I made sure that I continued my studies this way I had that as a backup plan if the singing thing didn’t go well. Luckily, the singing went well! But you should always have a backup plan. That’s my advice. [TOM]
*Q: When you found out your single Chasing the Sun was going to be the feature song in Ice Age 4, how did you guys react?
The Wanted: When we found out that our song was going to be in Ice Age 4, we were thrilled. It is really exciting to be a part of such a well-established film series. We got one of our acorns!
*Q: First, I just wanted to say congratulations on all you guys have accomplished. It’s amazing. And thank you for taking the time to speak with us today. I will end on something not so serious. I live in the South, and of course, we have all these coined phrases, like you mentioned earlier, y’all–. So, what is a phrase that you guys use a lot at home that you don’t hear over here with us?
The Wanted: Thanks it’s our pleasure to chat with you guys. Sometimes, you know when you get up really early and you feel like you’re actually still in bed, we say we feel a little bit ropey. So, if you feel a little bit ropey, it feels like you’re still sleepy.
