If you recall this post from yesterday you know I am probably one of the few who got a giggle out of the “I’m Too Pretty To Do Homework”. I found it snarky just like this shirt would be to me:
*On a quick side note, wonder what all the people up in arms over the “I’m Too Pretty” shirt have to say about this one. After all isn’t this teaching kids they are in control. Okay okay done with my one little snarky episode.
Obviously I was on the opposite side of the fence on this one and saw the shirt for nothing more than humor. To me it all boils down to parenting, if a little girl or boy reads that and thinks that is how things really work then I may need to sit down with that child’s parent. What I will say though is through this even though I am on the differing opinion of the shirt, is you CAN NOT deny social media voices have some power.
After the outrage over this shirt JCPenney issued a statement apologizing on their facebook page and have seemingly pulled the shirt. That’s the power of voices in the social media world. Even if I differed on this particular instance I love the fact that a difference can be made so instantaneously. It’s a wonderful thing over all if you ask me, to be able to join together on an issue and have your voice heard.
Social Media is definitely a powerful thing, that’s something that I am sure we can all agree on!

We are a society full of “oh no’s!” It is sad when everyone has to walk around P.C. because the large corporate big box stores tell us what we can and can’t wear. I saw no problem with the shirt and I probably would have bought one for my daughter (if she wanted one) but come on!
Like the photo says in your logo of JCP–Every Day Matters. To them it apparently does. To their bottom line.
I am not talking about wonton hate speech or images that provoke violence on clothing. I am against that but when something as trivial as the “too pretty shirt”, enough is enough.
I know the reaction was nuts, but the way our voices are heard in social media is amazing 🙂
I agree. Look at what social media did for (and/or to) Toyota, Netflix, countless others.
