In March my husband and I headed to the Orlando/Kissimmee area for a 10 year anniversary getaway. We have never been without the kids for that long…since we started dating (I already had our oldest). So, getting to go on a late honeymoon was so exciting for us. While we were just thrilled to spend time together that week, we didn’t know the adventures that awaited us. Part of that adventure was taking a complimentary hot air balloon ride with Bobs Balloons.
I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, but I was so excited to go on my first ever hot air balloon ride. If you are someone who values sleeping in, let me just say you will have to be up and out very early. You have to meet about 6 in the morning and head to the launch site. When you ride in a hot air balloon, you have to go before it gets too hot, hence the early morning adventure. After heading to our meeting spot and meeting they awesome and funny…Bob, we loaded up in the van and headed to where they would unload the balloons and we would be off.
My husband got to get hands on in helping set up the ride, talk about a true hands on experience:
I will admit to being a little nervous. After all, the wind is steering you, so you are pretty much at it’s mercy (which is why you won’t go when the wind is too bad or weather is not ideal). I was shocked at the size of this balloon. I had seen them flying earlier in the week and knew they were big, but these things were MASSIVE when they got to full size. Not only were they huge but they were beautiful to see all full, in their glory, ready to coast the skyline. See me, that gives you an idea of just how big they are…either that or I shrank:
Finally, it was time to take to the sky. Our group got into the basket and the hot air lifted us off the ground. Up, up, up we went and it was absolutely the most beautiful view. There were just enough clouds to make it slightly eery and the sunrise was perfection. What really got me a bit teary eyed was how beautiful the view was of all the balloons in the air:
The balloon ride was so peaceful and just to see the sights from high above was a different kind of experience. Our pilot, Bob (the owner), made sure to point out areas of interest and really just made sure we had the best ride possible. I will definitely be requesting him as a pilot again when we go back. After the ride was over, we headed to a local french restaurant and the group shared in breakfast (baked brie on french bread…YUM) and a champagne toast. It was such a wonderful time and even though we were in a group the whole time, the experience was still very romantic. You also get an adorable little flash drive in the shape of his balloon with video from your ride. I’ll be sharing some of the clips on Two Traveling Moms in the coming weeks.
Bobs Balloons does offer wedding flights (say I do high in the sky) as well as Banner flights (advertising your business at new heights). You can even buy gift certificates! Talk about an out of the ordinary gift!
