I remember being in elementary and loving the time on the playground. Whether it was running around playing Red Rover or just giggling with my best friends recess was always the time for us. Playing on the monkey bars, doing flips on the single bars or running around like a hamster in our huge wheel barrow thing (thing hamster wheel) we were always laughing. One of the things I remember most about that has to do with that wheel barrow.
We used to play a few games of bravery in that wheel barrow. One was where you would get it going as fast as you could and then lie down so see how far up the side you would go. It was quite fun, I think one of us hoped we would stick somehow and make it all the way around. Unfortunately for us, gravity had other ideas and we just kind of slid right back to the bottom.
Then we decided to take it to a new level and sit on the edge holding on with our hands and legs dangling while some pushed it back and forth. So we would go up half way one side then back the other way. It was fun. One day while I was sitting there having fun going back and forth , all the sudden back continued and the world went upside down for a moment. I didn’t realize what had happened until everyone was cheering LOL. I was the first one to go all the way around and didn’t quite realize it until after. It is still by far the memory that sticks out the most from my playground days. I giggle every time I think about it and the faces of everyone.
I hope my kids have memories like that. I hope all kids for that matter have a great (or few great) memories like that of recess. A little food for thought and what Danamils is doing to “Rally For Recess”….
