Yosemite and Yellowstone are two of the most notable national parks in the U.S. and that’s exactly where Art Director Toby Wilson, drew the inspiration for Piston Peak National Park. When we had a chance to sit down and really learn about how they research for a movie. Toby started his research with a trip to Yosemite with his parents. What better way than being right there in the middle of all that beauty!! As he traveled to research, that is how Piston Peak National Park came to be.

Piston Peak National Park is the beautiful backdrop you will get to know when you check out Planes: Fire and Rescue! The landscape and scenery throughout the movie, take you through beautiful scenery, that make you feel like you are right there in Piston Peak National Park!

Most of Planes: Fire and Rescue takes place in Piston Peak National Park, and when you see the movie you will understand why. The beauty of Piston Peak is amazing. Months and months of planning went into making sure everything from Upper White Wall Falls to Rail Ridge had a touch of reality with a mix of Disney magic thrown in. My favorite part was seeing the things like the train, the pistons, and the thunderbolts built right into the scenery.

Even things like “wild” animals were made part of this movie, with an auto or air vehicle theme of course! As we took our art director tour of Piston Peak National Park, I was so enthralled with everything. The trees, the lodge, the droplets of water, so many small details, you may not realize…until now, because now you know to look for them. The rooms in the lodge were based on the Old Faithful Inn. There really was no detail overlooked in the making of Planes:Fire and Rescue and the Piston Peaks National Park!
Are you ready to go on your own tour or Piston Peak? Then head to theaters to see Planes: Fire and Rescue and be sure to keep your eyes peeled for all those hidden gems, there are some pretty awesome ones throughout the movie!
