It’s no surprise my daughter (okay and yours truly here) was excited to find out we were getting to welcome American Girl’s newest doll, Caroline Abbott, to our AG collection. Another beautifully made American Girl doll with a story to tell.
200 years after America secured its standing as a truly independent nation, American Girl’s newest character, Caroline Abbott shows girls today how to stay steady and believe in themselves during difficult times. Caroline, an independent and adventurous nine year old, is living in Sackets Harbor, New York during the War of 1812. She learns to use her heart as her compass during the challenging moments life has. Always making sure to help those around her, Caroline, gives without expecting anything in return. Wanting to take after her father and one day captain her own boat, her life gets a twist like no other when sailors capture her father. She does her best to keep her promises to stay strong and make it through life’s storms and learns just how strong she is as she navigates the challenges of war times.
What a great lesson to teach all our children today, that no matter what storms life brings you can make it through, but how you choose to make it through is up to you. There will be six new historical books that tell all about Caroline’s life written by author and social historian, Kathleen Ernst. The book series will include: Meet Caroline, Caroline’s Secret Message, A Surprise for Caroline, Caroline Takes A Chance, Caroline’s Battle, and Changes for Caroline. Each book has a storm Caroline has to weather and through it all she remains true to herself. That is a lesson worth teaching I’d say.
Want a sneak peek of how Caroline Abbott looks, you’re in luck:
She really is a beautiful doll. With butter blonde hair and light blue eyes as well as many historical clothes for purchase you can feel as if you have traveled back in time. With the release of Caroline, American Girl also wants to celebrate bravery and kindness of the girls today. They will be launching “Caroline’s Share the Hero in You” video contest on September 4, 2012 and running it until October 31, 2012. Girls are invited to share a video clip (up to 60 seconds) sharing about a time when they felt like an everyday hero. When the contest goes live the video can be shared online at americangirl.com/playcaroline . They will pick 6 finalists based on creativity, originality, visual appeal and best use of the heroism theme. Starting November 5, American Girl fans can vote for their favorite finalist, the winner will receive a trip for four to Washington D.C. to visit the American Girl store, a VIP tour of the Smithsonian to learn more about Caroline’s era, and a Caroline doll, accessories, and six-bo0k set.
HOW COOL IS THAT??!! Get ready for the release of Caroline and share the importance of coming through the storm a better person. I know I am excited to read Caroline’s story with my daughter and I hope you are too. Head over here to check out my video review of Caroline.
**I was provided doll and first book for sole purpose of review, all opinions are my own. For more see my disclosure under the pr friendly tab.
