There is nothing like taking a break from life and getting away from it all. It is even better when family can all be together at the same place, at the same time. I was given an amazing opportunity to experience the South Seas Island Resort, located on beautiful Captiva Island. I live within driving distance of Captiva, but have only been there a handful of times. We all need a chance to just escape from it all and enjoy the fresh air and sunshine, so of course we packed our bags and headed to the beach!
The beach at the South Seas Island Resort is absolutely breath taking. The white, powdery sand is gorgeous and the water is a beautiful turquoise blue as far as you can see. The best part about this beach is its privacy. The beaches are only available to those staying at the South Seas, so you can worry no more about a thousand people seeing you in your bathing suit! Captiva Island is known for its seashells, which you will find plenty of while walking along the beach each day. Aidan just loved playing in the sand and looking for seashells!
One of the biggest advantages to staying at South Seas Island Resort is that you do not have to leave the resort for anything! The resort is chock full of amenities and activities for everyone! All of the guestrooms offer full kitchens, so we went straight to the Shipps Store to stock up on snacks and drinks. The resort is 2 miles long, so they give you plenty of options for getting around. You can choose to drive your own vehicle, ride the trolly, rent a bike or even a golf cart! We rented a golf cart from Best Boats, which made it so much fun and super easy to get around each day of our stay.
One of our best family memories from our trip to the South Seas Island Resort was the Dolphin Tour that we took one afternoon. The Captiva Cruises Dolphin and Wildlife Adventure Tour was 90 minutes long exploring Pine Island Sound. The weather was perfect for a boat ride and the sky was blue for miles. Aidan loved waiting to see the dolphins and we were in the perfect spot when it was finally time for them to make their appearance! There were probably 7 or 8 dolphins, including babies, playing in the wake from our boat. It was amazing watching the look on Aidan’s face!
We had a blast just walking around and exploring all of the different things to do at South Seas. From golf to jet skis, there is truly something for everyone. Young children can explore the Sanibel Sea School, where everyday is a field trip. Toddlers to teenagers will enjoy Sully’s Interactive Center and Arcade. The toddler room at Sully’s was jam packed full of great toys and activities for Aidan. I actually stopped feeling bad about not packing him a bag full of toys since there were tons for him to enjoy here!
There are 20 swimming pools at the South Seas Island Resort! Yes, you read that right! 20! Not only does every guestroom have a pool within walking distance, there are 3 gorgeous resort style pools at the edge of the resort. Two of these resort style pools are overlooking beautiful Red Fish Pass, where the dolphins like to congregate. There is also a zero entry pool perfect for the kids. The zero entry pool even features an exciting water slide for the kids!
A family vacation wouldn’t be complete without a little “me” time. Thankfully, my husband was kind enough to take Aidan to the beach while I enjoyed a day at the Kay Casperson Spa. I enjoyed my first ever facial, and boy was I sad to know what I’ve been missing. I was given a luxurious robe and a pair of slip on shoes and brought back to my private escape. The hot steam and massage were just what my face needed. I’ve never felt more relaxed. It was an hour just for me!
Now, I’ve lived in Florida for most of my life. I’ve seen some incredible sunsets, but nothing comes close to the sunsets that I saw while visiting South Seas. One of my personal favorite moments was getting to watch my boys play in the surf during another beautiful sunset. It is possible for you to enjoy these same moments with your family, without putting a huge dent in your wallet. The South Seas Island Resort is now offering the Just Escape Package. The package includes a minimum 4 night stay in your choice of accommodations with the 4th night being free! You will also receive a resort voucher book valued at $250, which will give you deep savings on everything from food to activities! Kids 12 and under will also enjoy complimentary breakfast during the stay, so you can really make it a family affair! You can visit the South Seas website for more information or to make a reservation today!

Gorgeous! Those dolphin photos are amazing! I hope to bring the family to Florida for a vacation soon.
This sounds fabulous – even though now it is warmer out, the thought of enjoying these beautiful sunsets and the dolphins and such beautiful beach – I’d love to go!
I lived in Florida for some years, but never visited Captiva Island – it looks so nice, I want to experience it!
