Okay so I am not even going to pretend a wee little bit that I was not a lot giddy over this interview session. Once I knew Kevin McKidd (known to most as Dr. Hunt on Grey’s Anatomy) voiced two characters in Brave it just upped the already high coolness factor. Not to mention Craig Ferguson is hysterical. Before I continue check out this little shout out us “mommy bloggers” got on the Craig Ferguson show (listen to the mark 1:40 to about 1:54, sure it’s a small shout out but still cool none the less)
Anyhoo back to the interview. Craig Ferguson plays the voice of Lord Macintosh while Kevin McKidd voiced both Lord and Young MacGuffin. These two men were such fun in the interview. Not to mention I could have set for hours listening to their Scottish accents. I jumped right in myself and asked the very first question which was:
My question/comment to Kevin: Okay, I have a question. I’ll start with Kevin. I’ve watched you for a long time obviously with Grey’s Anatomy and I didn’t even know that you were Scottish —
Kevin:Ohhh.
My question continued: until I saw an interview. I did not know you had an accent, so I was really impressed with your acting. What I want to know is do you enjoy going back to your roots for a part or the challenge of taking on an accent? And also, is it harder to go back to your roots of Scottish after you’ve been using an American accent for so long?
Kevin: Oh, it’s not. It’s like duck to water really. I mean love doing the accents. I’ve always — I — when I was brought up in the highlands of Scotland there’s all these different accents, you know, different English, British Isles accents coming through, and I always mimic them. So, I love doing the American, you know, on the show. And it’s flattering to hear that you didn’t have a clue, you know.
Craig: I didn’t know you were Scottish either.
Kevin: Oh, really?
Craig: I didn’t know. And I first saw you in Trainspotting, so I don’t know what [LAUGHS] I’m telling you.
Kevin: But so, you know, it’s, it’s fun to go back. It’s fun to go back just to your own accent. You know, it’s make change, ‘cause I’m always having to have that part of my brain running fast — really fast just hope we get the accent correct. And suddenly you can just let it go and do your own accent, so it’s a real joy to do that.
Me: Thank you.
*Totally interjecting to make a point to note that I flattered Kevin McKidd. Did you see where he said that to me? Well go on back if you didn’t. Now we are back to your regularly scheduled professional interview, the rest of the questions were from the other bloggers in attendance*
Q: Were you worried that once they’ve requested you do a Scottish character it’s going to get you typecast?
Craig: I don’t care. I don’t think it’s like that. I don’t know, I don’t know if — do you think like that? Do you think about your–
Kevin: No —
Craig: –self being type–
Kevin: I usually I get offered a lot of villains and things.
Craig: Well, you’re scary looking. You got, got —
Kevin: So, I get offered a lot of baddies.
Craig: Mmm.
Kevin: And I, I can — I remember a while ago I was like I’m only gonna do a baddie maybe like once every — that’s the only — ‘cause every other time I’m just happy you get offered a job. You know what I mean?
Craig: Right, right, right.
Kevin: But the one thing I thought if I’d just take all these baddie roles I’ll just be a bad guy forever, and I didn’t want that to happen. So, that’s the only thing I’ve ever made a stipulation on is that. Maybe one guy very three years seems like a good ration.
Craig: Seems fair. And the doctors how often would you do a doctor? [LAUGHS]
Kevin: Yeah, that’s another story.
Craig: Yeah.
Question: Was it hard to like nail your comedic timing when you’re by yourself in the booth and not having a reaction or working with anyone else?
Kevin: It wasn’t — I found it quite tricky, but Mark Andrews, the Director and Brenda, were really good at just — I mean I think Mark Andrews was — he’s quite kind of larger than life manager.
Craig: Very energetic, yeah.
Kevin: So, he just — he would do a line and then you see them and they weren’t quite happy, and then he’d say — he’d come with the, the mic and go say the line again and pretend your character just got poked in the eye with a stick.
Craig: Yeah, yeah, he would do all that, yeah.
Kevin: And stuff like that and go what. He just goes just do it. Just do it.
Craig: That’s a, that’s a, that’s a good impression of — you, you, you really got him on that. [LAUGHS] You really like him. [LAUGHS]
Kevin: So, you know, he go and — you go and, you know what I mean, got your juices flowing.
Craig: Yeah, yeah.
Kevin: That’s about the right phrase you would use.
Craig: No, I think that’s fine.
Question: What was your favorite Disney Movie of all time?
Kevin: Aristocats
Craig: Wall-E

Question: Do you have time to take a quick group photo with us?
Kevin: Of course.
Craig: With both, or just with Grey’s Anatomy. Yeah, all right.
*this question made me LOL so I just had to share and it’s a great lead in to the group shot:
A huge thank you to Craig Ferguson and Kevin McKidd for taking the time to sit and talk with us. We got a closer look at their thoughts behind so much and the interview was filled with laughs galore. These two men are so talented and so friendly it was such a joy to get the chance to interact with them.

What a great interview. Thanks for sharing it Toni.
Fantastic interview, Toni! I can’t even imagine what I’d ask those two – you did wonderfully!
I cannot tell you how much I envy the two gals on either side of Kevin McKidd! Or who I like to refer to as, McFirey! 🙂
I love Kevin so much and that’s so funny because I didn’t know he was Scottish either!
