Tis’ the season for baking lots of tasty Christmas Cookies in our house. We love to bake goodies for friends and family members and thanks to Betty Crocker we can add a little extra holiday touch to our Christmas cookies.
I had the supplies for cutting the cookies on hand, but I headed to my local Walmart and picked up a bunch of packs of Betty Crocker cookies. Peanut Butter, Chocolate Chip and Sugar Cookies. For our fun delivery of Christmas Cookies to our friends, I knew we wanted to make Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars and Sugar Cookies in holiday shapes. Once home, my daughter and I took to the kitchen for a little mother/daughter bonding time.
I love that she can play a part in this fun holiday tradition of spreading cheer to friends and family. We made our Christmas cookies following the direction on the back of the package. We put the chocolate chip mix in a 8 by 8-inch pan and cooked it for about 35 minutes.
For the sugar cookies, you want to make sure you are following the shape instructions and not the regular cookie instructions. All you have to do is add 1 tablespoon of flour to the dry mix, then add the melted butter and egg. Mix until it is a soft dough, then roll out to 1/4 inch thickness on a floured surface and cut your cookies into shapes. It said to cook 5-7 minutes but for us it took about 13.
After we had gotten the Christmas cookies all baked, we cut the chocolate chips into bars and had a blast decorating the sugar cookies. Don’t worry, we saved some for my boys to decorate, when they have time, so they wouldn’t’ be left out. After decorating, I headed to the Betty Crocker site, which has some fantastic recipes, and found some fun activities and free printables. I printed out the printables to attach to our Christmas cookie bags, and it was time to deliver our tasty treats to loved ones.
My daughter and I headed to our church’s thrift store to treat the volunteers to come yummy cookies. We even got the head honcho herself, also known as my mom, to show off her Christmas cookies. She and the other volunteers were thrilled with the Christmas cookies. I love when I can give back whether it’s through time, money, items, or, in this case, food. The Christmas season is about spreading cheer and doing for others, and the fact that my kids love taking part in that is a win for me!
