A Daily Dose of Comedy

Let me begin by telling you what a big dummy this blogger is, me, this one right here! I was messing with my code trying to install the code for the numbering comments, well somehow all my widget/sidebar stuff got all screwy and it erased my sitemeter (blogpatrol and statcounter were fine just in a different place) so I went back in there to get the code and to add the visits it had missed and I deleted my whole entire count!!!!!!!!!!!! I thought I was going to die! So I tried to re add it and I put myself back to like 500 visitors or something (that was yesterday alone LOL). Oh what a day, so go ahead laugh at my lack of intelligence when it comes to messing with anything html related.

Okay now onto Momisms, some more definitions from my Momisms book. Phrases Moms use and what they really mean:

“Don’t go out with a wet head, you’ll catch pneumonia”
~Like feet, wet heads are believed to be the second leading cause of the most dreaded diseases, especially the nefarious pneumonia
*Next to head lice, pneumonia and it’s mysterious cousin, “walking pneumonia” continue to be a mother’s worst nightmare in spite of modern antiobiotics and other miracles of modern medicine.

“Pretty is as pretty does”
~This is used with daughters as a postscript to such motherly advice as:
Pull your skirt down
Keep your legs together
Comb your hair out of your eyes
Stand up straight
Take your elbows off the table
Sit up, shoulders back
Pick up your feet when you walk

“Horses sweat, men perspire, ladies glow”
~An age-old intended to stop daughters (and sons) from using that unsavory word sweat.
*Unfortunately, this one has never really caught on, as you’ll never hear anyone at the gym complain, “I’m glowing like a pig” or “You’re working up a good glow”
Toni moment: I don’t know about you but I do work up a very nice glow at the gym it’s called a tan!

“Look it up in the dictionary”
~This ism is used to foster educational self-sufficiency, resourcefulness, and initiative.
Translation: “Are you kidding? I have no idea how to spell prestidigitation and I’m too damned old to learn”

“Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery”
~This classic momism is usually spoken to pacify a child who is upset over being copied by a peer. It is only moderately effective and never works in reverse when on of Mom’s peers shows up at a party wearing her dress, shoes or haircut.
Toni moment: Oh yes so true that is some stuff I will throw down over, although I will laugh at someone because no matter how hard you try you will never be me 🙂

What are some momisms you use? Have a happy Sunday!

We always use “You can’t make pretty ugly.” It was always a nice way of saying that no matter how blah you look or feel you are always beautiful!
