Meet Lea Clark, American Girl’s 2016 Girl of the Year

On January 1, 2016, American Girl, launched the American Girl‘s 2016 Girl Of The Year™ — Lea Clark! My daughter, an avid fan of American Girl, was so excited for the new doll. And what an adorable doll she is!

Lea American Girl

Today, millions of girls are going wild for Lea Clark, American Girl’s 2016 Girl of the Year™! Lea, a talented photographer with a love for animals, discovers a vast world of possibilities when she embarks on a faraway adventure to Brazil! I don’t know about your kids, but my daughter loves the American Girl Dolls, and this one is no exception.

American Girl Lea Extras

With her compass and bag, Lea Clark is ready to go on an adventure and your children will want to go along for the ride. Lea is an excellent way to encourage kids to get outside and find adventure even where you live.

Lea American Girl Doll

As with every American Girl doll we own, Lea Clark is beautiful. With blonde hair, green eyes, and a tan she fits right in with us here at the beach. Her dress screams tropical with bright colors that compliment her skin tone.

One of our favorite things about the American Girl’s Girl of the Year is that you can go on a journey with her. Thanks to the books about the girl of the year, your children can feel like they are right with Lea Clark as they go on whatever adventures the book has in store.

Lea-Clark-book-collection

Written by award-winning author Lisa Yee, the 2016 Girl of the Year books—Lea Dives In, Lea Leads the Way, and Lea and Camila—introduce girls to a curious ten-year-old girl with an adventurous spirit. On a family trip to Brazil to visit her older brother, Zac, who is studying the Amazon rainforest, Lea is excited to capture everything she sees with her camera. Soon Lea makes some incredible discoveries, but she also faces unexpected challenges, including a fear of the ocean, tension with Zac, and finding a baby sloth that has been gravely injured. With the help of her family, her new Brazilian friend, Camila, and her late grandmother’s guiding inspiration, Lea finds the inner strength and confidence to live her new adventures to the fullest.

Because we just got the book I can’t weigh in on how they are, as we haven’t had a chance to read it yet. However, I will update this post with my thoughts (or my daughter’s thoughts since I think most books are good, it will be great to get her perspective). For now, I can tell you we love Lea Clark, she is a beautiful doll with some great adventures we can’t wait to accompany her on!

Giving Back with Lea Clark

To show girls that, together, they can make a difference in helping protect animals and their habitats, American Girl has created Wild at Art, a year-long fund-raising campaign in support of World Wildlife Fund (WWF). Starting January 1, American Girl is encouraging girls to use their artistic abilities to host an art sale and donate the proceeds to WWF. To launch the campaign, American Girl has made a $50,000 donation to WWF and also invites customers to contribute at American Girl retail stores and americangirl.com. Parents can visit americangirl.com/wildatart to learn more and register for Wild at Art, plus get animal-themed craft ideas, and be entered into a sweepstakes for the chance to win one of 17 Lea prize packages.

Also, from January 1 through December 31, 2016, for every purchase of one of the three plush animals in Lea’s collection—the margay, sea turtle, or sloth—American Girl will donate $1 (up to a maximum of $100,000) to WWF.

I love that American Girl is giving back, what a great way to teach our kids to do the same. American Girl 2016 Girl of the Year, Lea Clark, is only available through this year. So don’t wait, because once she is gone, she is gone for good! Do you have any children that like American Girl dolls?
