Big Hero 6 hit theaters today, and my kids are already begging to go this weekend. I’ll happily oblige, when we get done with our cheer competition, because when I had the chance to see Big Hero 6 at the LA premiere, I just knew it was one I wanted them to see! Why? I’ll tell you why, in fact I’ll tell you 7 reasons why!
1) BayMax
Baymax is the character you will all fall in love with from the moment you meet him. An inflatable robot, built by Tadashi (Hiro’s older brother),he just wants to help everyone. According to producer Richard Conli, “Baymax views the world from one perspective—he just wants to help people, he sees Hiro as his patient.” Which is so true. As we watch him help Hiro through a very difficult, you will see Baymax help Hiro know what is really important, family and friends.
2) Hiro
Hiro is a teen prodigy who is very into robots. He loves to go the underground fights in San Fansokyo, and take his competitors by suprise. Because of his age (14) and size, he is underestimated. Kinda reminds me of my daughter :). His older brother wants him to get out from the underground and make something of his life. Getting into SFIT, he is able to create something that becomes the apple of a certain characters eye…and Hiro has to try to save the world…or at least San Fransokyo! What I love about Hiro, is aside from his smarts, he doesn’t have any superhero powers, sometimes just being you is all the superhero you need!
3) Gogo Tomago
This chick is AWESOME. All about “womaning up” she takes her edge and uses it to her benefit. She loves anything that gets her heart racing, and is working on an electomagnetic wheel axle at the university. She isn’t the most talkative of the bunch but she pushes the others to be their best, in a way that no one else can! Learning when to push your friends, so they will do their best, is one of the lessons I loved in this movie.
4) Honey Lemon Drop
Honey Lemon Drop makes you see that being a “nerd” is totally okay. I have a feeling I would get along with Honey Lemon Drop, because of how fun she is. She is a chemistry major at the university and always has such a “We can do it” attitude. When you see her, you just know that you can accomplish anything! This is a lesson we should all implement daily! She is quirky and will have you in stitches through the movie.
5) Fred
When we see Fred outside of his hero “uniform” it’s easy to jump to the conclusion he is just another dingy surfer dude. Which is exactly why you should never judge a book by it’s cover! He is the school mascot by day and by night, well he is still the school mascot. Don’t let his laid back attitude fool you, he will be going places and when he does you will want to be along for the ride!
6) Wasabi
The first thing I noticed about Wasabi (no ginger), in the movie, was his key to detail. From his tool set up to his martial arts, everything seems to be on point with him. But sometimes life situations may bring on a little more chaos and Wasabi, finds this out, as he takes on the role of a hero to help Hiro! We all know being a superhero isn’t being perfect all the time, in fact some of the best superheroes are the best because they can allow some chaos sometimes! Just one of the great lessons we can take away from the movie! No one can be perfect all the time.
7) Because it’s AWESOME!
Your kids will learn what is really important, there are so many lessons learned from each character in the movie (even the ones not mentioned above). You will love it just as much as your kids! You will find yourself laughing and crying through the movie. The set is AMAZING, even though it’s an animated film, the detail is beyond anything I can accurately describe. We see someone go through a hard time and friends and family band together to support him, then work together to save the world.
I am really excited to take my kids to see the move this weekend, though I will be going with tissues in tow because I know I will be shedding quite a few tears! Check out the trailer and see just a few more reasons why you need to see Big Hero 6 this weekend!
