I had the chance to go on the Wild Africa Trek at Disney’s Animal Kingdom as part of the Monkey Kingdom event.  All opinions are my own!

What do wild animals, beautiful nature, and an authentic African meal have in common? Disney’s Wild Africa Trek at Animal Kingdom! One of my favorite activities during the Monkey Kingdom Event, was going on the trek  If you are an adventure seeker and want to go on a journey to remember forever, then Disney’s Animal Kingdom “Wild Africa Trek” is for you. I was so excited to have the chance to take part in the journey and get a closer look at the animals I fall in love with every time I visit Disney’s Animal Kingdom!

Before I break down what happens on the trek, check out this little bit of video I took during the fun

Getting Started

Disney's Wild Africa Trek

To get started you will head to where the Kilamanjaro Safari entrance is, and you will see the Wild Africa Trek right next to it.  You will start by signing waivers and stowing any belongings that don’t have straps. They provide all the safety gear, name tags, ear pieces (which is kind of comical when a whole group of you burst out laughing while walking through the park), the guides, water bottles (that are yours to keep) and a photographer to document the journey! Once you get suited up, it’s time to get going!

Animals on Disney's Wild Africa Trek

Disney’s Wild Africa Trek is an adventure for those who are age 8 and older (though if you are under 18 you need a legal guardian with you) to go on a 3-hour safari! As part of the trek you will adventure through the Safi River Valley and discover animals of nearly every variety in an uninhibited, natural environment. The trek is a guided journey, where you and your group see Disney Animal Kingdom in a whole new way. You’ll go by foot and super special safari vehicle to get up close to the animals at Animal Kingdom.

Seeing wildlife on Wild Africa Trek

You will go out on ledges to get a closer look at animals you usually see from afar and even cross a bridge right across a family of HUGE crocodiles. I’ll admit the bridge was a little daunting, but as you see in my video above, it is such an awesome experience!

Good Eats

Lunch At The Boma
During your trek, you will stop for a “snack” which to me was more like a meal. The location is called a “Boma” and is actually where people on safaris stop to eat. It is usually a hidden area covered to camouflage and protect those who are taking their break. Our Boma was the perfect place for photos with an amazing backdrop. This African-inspired food tasting is INCLUDED with the tour cost! If you have food allergies or are vegetarian you can make arrangements in advance for that.

Beautiful Backdrop wild africa trek

Monkey Kingdom

Life is an adventure for Maya, the clever and resourceful blonde-bobbed monkey in “Monkey Kingdom,” Disneynature’s new feature film set among ancient ruins in the storied jungles of South Asia. Maya’s world is forever changed when she welcomes her son, Kip, into her complicated extended family. Like all families, Maya’s has more than its share of colorful personalities—and she’s determined to give her son a leg up in the world. When their longtime home at Castle Rock is taken over by powerful neighboring monkeys, Maya’s whole family is forced to relocate, where she uses her street smarts and ingenuity to lead them to untapped resources amidst strange new creatures and unsettling surroundings. Ultimately, they will all have to work together to reclaim Castle Rock, where Maya can hopefully realize her dreams for her son’s future. Featuring a rich cast of characters, including a mischievous mongoose, simple-minded langur monkeys, predatory leopards and monitor lizards, “Monkey Kingdom” is directed by Mark Linfield (“Chimpanzee,” “Earth”) and co-directed by Alastair Fothergill (“Chimpanzee,” “Bears”). With music from award-winning composer Harry Gregson-Williams (“The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe,” “Shrek” movies), Disneynature’s eighth True Life Adventure—the follow-up to 2014’s “Bears”
