Over on my new venture, Red Carpet Mama, I posted today about the summer movies my family and I wanted to see. One I was as excited about as my kids was Cars 2. I mean really who doesn’t love Mater and McQueen along with Holly, Doc, Flo and the other original characters. Then I found out something that made me change my mind about wanting to see the movie……..
Then I heard Doc DIES!!!!! When I heard this, I decided I don’t know if I want to be seeing Cars 2. You can’t have Cars without Doc, it’s like Ice Cream without the chocolate syrup. Just not right. Why in the world would they let him die of old age. We all know classics are all the rage and you can replace the engine to make them good as new. So that is what they should have done, but noooooooo they let him die! THE NERVE.
So I will be boycotting Cars 2 because I want Doc to live forever. Okay, so at some point I will probably break down and watch it. But I will tell you now I absolutely do cry at cartoons and will when Doc dies. Boo!
*I still love Disny/Dreamworks/Pixar they are awesome at what they do and their movies are pretty much awesome. Just thought I should clear that up LOL.
Edited to add: I have found out since the writing of this post in the comments below that it’s not as bad as I thought, so maybe just maybe I will cave and see it, well unless Transfomers calls to me more.

Wait wait wait wait… you got some wrong info Mama. Doc doesnt die in the movie. The way they play it is that has has passed between movie 1 & 2 – so it isnt like something sad that you have to explain to your kids (like every other freaking Disney movie… Bambi, Lion King) And they do him up well, very respectful. Dont let it hold you back. The movie is very cute. Even though the sound track isnt as good, the movie is still cute 🙂
Whew! That makes it a little more bearable but I still am gonna be sad not to see doc, just not the same without him 🙁 I may wait until it comes out on dvd.
Doc was voiced by Paul Newman who passed away last year. John Lasseter of Pixar said there was no way you could replace Paul Newman and, as a result, Doc’s character would not appear in Cars 2. Having seen the movie at the beginning they had a very nice tribute to Paul/Doc that was very fitting in light of Newman’s death and how much of a car guy he was.
I never realized it was Paul Newman so that makes sense. Thanks for sharing that. Still saddens me he isn’t in there.
I thought it was very respectful to Paul Newman’s memory that they didn’t just try to plug a new voice into the character. It was tastefully done and just mentioned briefly. *Spoiler* The cars talk about wishing Doc was there… and there is a wall of tribute to the great racer that Doc was. Blink and you will miss this part.
My children loved the movie, the new characters and the theme of friendship. Now, GO SEE IT!!!!
I heard Transformers was really, really chaotic and you may need a tranquiler once it’s over from the noise and chaos letdown. Honest review I saw on tv this week.
