Jaimie Alexander Interview, Sitting Down With Lady Sif #ThorDarkWorldEvent

**Thank you to Disney for bringing me out and covering most expenses during the entire trip. Opinions are my personal views**

Jaimie Alexander

When I found out I was going to have a chance to sit down with Lady Sif (played by Jaimie Alexander)herself, I was a little beside myself.  It’s not often you get to sit with a chick who plays a kick butt warrior woman amongst men, so this was an interview I was excited to be a part of.  We chatted like girls would, talking about brothers, role models, if her character will have a romance with Thor and so much more.  Now, it’s my pleasure to let you get to know Jaimie Alexander a little better…

Your character in the comics has a romantic relationship with Thor?  Will we get to see any of that, the triangle they have going on?

They hint at it a little bit.  They can’t go fully there, yet, but, they definitely hint at it.  It’s always fun, because that’s in the comic books and we definitely want to appease the fans.  So, we put that in there.  I look at him a few times.  Unfortunately, he’s not shirtless in front of me, but that’s fine, it’s all right.

Spoiler: Fans do get to see him shirtless in the movie, so you will not be saying womp, womp, womp, like I know you just were reading that!

How did you prepare yourself for this role?

I worked with a dialect coach to have a British accent.  I also trained for about two months.  Weight lifting, Yoga, Pilates, on the Reformer, which was something new for me.  You give me a machine like that and it’s like you’re asking for me to just hurt myself.  I did a lot of fight training with a wonderful stunt girl named Chloe Bruce.  She is a world champion martial artist, she’s a little scary.  I mean, when you first meet her, she’s great.  Then you’re like, “Oh.  Whoa.  You can bend your leg that way.  I’m just gonna go over here.

Is there a side of your character we’ll see in part two that we didn’t see in the first movie?

Yes, actually. You get to see a very vulnerable side of Sif. You also get to see what her fellow Asgardians mean to her. In the first movie, we explored that a little bit. She’s very protective. Her first priority is to protect her fellow Asgardians and the throne. This one, there’s a little bit of heartache, but it’s really amazing, because she’s very selfless. The heartache is definitely an underlying tone to her. She kind of puts it aside and says, “You know what? I have lives to save. I’m gonna put that first.

Young girls will be looking to you as one of their superheroes, is there anyone that you looked up to growing up?

There was a superhero named Wonder Woman that I definitely looked up to growing up, and actually Sigourney Weaver. She was always my favorite. She seemed to embody a sense of humor, while being stoic and being powerful, and still being feminine. To me, she is the ideal woman. If I was a guy I would probably be like, “Go out with me,” but, yeah. She’s amazing. She’s incredible. I always looked up to her and the characters she played.

Actually, Walt Simonson, who had a great deal to do with my character back in the Seventies saw Sigourney Weaver walking down a street in a red trench coat in the 1970s, and said, “That’s gonna be Sif.” So, my character is modeled after Sigourney Weaver, and to me, that’s come full circle.

What was your favorite part of the film?

There’s an opening battle sequence that I had a blast doing. I got to do a backflip off a horse. If anybody knew me really well, they’d be like, “Let’s not put her anywhere near a horse.” But, I did it, and it was a lot of fun. Several wires involved and stunt women. It was a lot of fun and that sequence was so great. There’s a lot of humor in the movie and that sort of thing. There’s also another part that we did, it’s a corridor scene with Thor and Loki. And it’s pretty funny.

I have to agree with her, the corridor scene was hilarious, I still crack up thinking about it.

A few more things we learned about Jaimie is she loves to do stunts herself if at all possible, unless it’s fire, according to her she can’t be lit on fire because “She would look different for the rest of the film“.  Had I had a drink in my mouth when she said that I would have embarrassingly spewed it everywhere.  Growing up with brothers has definitely made her tougher and when asked what they thought of her being in the Thor movies she said ” They love it, during the first movie they asked if she would give their number to Natalie Portman.  Definitely sounds like something a brother would ask…who cares that my sister is playing a kick butt warrior, just give my number to the cute girl I’m not related too LOL.

We learned that her action figure is pretty true to her look as Sif, she hopes to have a role in the next Avengers movie, and she is freakishly good at sword fighting in real life.  It was so amazing to sit and chat with such an inspiring woman. She is beautiful, strong, friendly and that is both her character and her as a person.  I can’t wait to see her in action again!
