Iron Man 3 Review, The Best One Yet! #IronMan3Event

Iron Man 3 Poster

If you are wondering if I would go see Iron Man 3 again even though I saw it at the red carpet premiere, the answer is HECK YEAH!!!! In my opinion, this is the best in the Iron Man series! The movie is out nationwide TODAY (May 3, 2013).   It actually opened in some theaters here last night at 9. If I had not been sick and under the weather I would have trucked right to the movie theater for that showing yesterday.  As I set out to write this review, I want to do it justice without giving away too much information.  I have to admit, loving it so much, keeping mum about the details that really make the movie awesome, is difficult, but I am going to try my best.
The movie has all the components a great movie needs…action, a sweet love story, funny moments, a hero (or a few), a villan, and everything in between. From the time the opening dialogue started I knew this was going to be THE movie in the Iron Man series to top and I was not disappointed!  Honestly, I walked out of the El Capitan completely bursting at the seams.  The adrenaline was pumping.   I wanted to turn right back around, go back to my seat, and tell them to please play it again for me.

Iron Man 3

The story takes place after the ending of Marvel’s The Avengers, and Tony Stark (Robert Downy Jr.) is dealing with bouts of anxiety from the happenings of the battle. Deeply affected, he throws himself into what he knows best….building crazy, amazing “additions” but still not at peace.  In Tony’s mind it goes something like this “I build cool things. I got a great girl. Save the world sometimes. So why can’t I sleep?” We see a different relationship, a sweeter if I may, between Tony & Pepper (Gwyneth Paltrow).  Seeing them together, as they are in this movie, made me smile.  Happiness for Tony & Pepper at last?  Maybe not.  Someone from Tony’s past comes back and could be the breaking point of Pepperony!  As if making a relationship work isn’t hard enough try throwing past flings, bad guys, almost dying and lots of craziness into the mix.

Not only do we have an underlying love story, but we also get lots of action.  There were definitely many more explosions in Iron Man 3, but without them, I don’t think the movie would have worked.  One of the biggest explosions hurts a friend and in turn gets Tony’s attention.  Tony’s focus then turns to the Mandarin, a terrorist responsible for some tragic happenings and who seemingly has no conscience.    Tony becomes a target and it’s now a fight for his life.  However, Tony isn’t about to go down with out a little bit of snark,  making sure to send a  “holiday greeting” to the Mandarin (Ben Kingsley) and inviting him to his home for what was one of the scariest (for Tony fans) parts of the movie.   Not to mention, a new face wears the suit and I could hardly contain my thrill when it happened.

After almost dying, Tony ends up in Tennessee where he makes an unlikely, but oh so adorable ally, Harley (Ty Simpkins).  Together they try to figure out who is behind the terror exactly.  Learning it is not who they originally thought Tony sets out to get some answers.  The journey to find the Mandarin is one with some twists but full of hysterical moments.  The comedic performance by Ben Kingsley along the way had me laughing so hard, I almost wished it took Tony longer to find out.  As with all good action movies, you are left on the edge of your seat quite a bit and if you are anything like me, you will cry during one (okay maybe two) scenes.  The plot, who is behind what, the real battle, are all  so interesting and make the movie flow together perfectly.  Ending in a way that is both satisfying and surprising.

One question I had as the movie wrapped up was “Would this be the final Iron Man?”   All I will say….go see the movie to find out…but be sure to stay after the credits!

Marvel’s “Iron Man 3” pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?

Starring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Stephanie Szostak, James Badge Dale with Jon Favreau and Ben Kingsley, Marvel’s “Iron Man 3” is directed by Shane Black from a screenplay by Drew Pearce & Shane Black and is based on Marvel’s iconic Super Hero Iron Man, who first appeared on the pages of “Tales of Suspense” (#39) in 1963 and had his solo comic book debut with “The Invincible Iron Man” (#1) in May of 1968.
