Years ago I went to Spain and loved every minute of it. Since becoming a parent I haven’t been overseas but that’s definitely not for lack of wanting to. I want to head somewhere tropical and Ibiza looks like the perfect place for a vacation as a couple with just my husband or as a family get away.
Ibiza is an island with many reputations: a sun-soaked Mediterranean isle, an all-night clubbing hot-spot, and a relaxing family seaside destination. Don’t look so surprised – families are flocking to The main resorts in Ibiza are San Antonio which you can find in the north and also near Eivissa in the south. While some areas are geared more toward late night happenings there is no need to worry if you want a more family focused resort. If that is more your style, look into San Rafael. It is a quiet, central town which can be reached from the airport in twenty minutes. Even parts of Ibiza town are peaceful away from the port area.
The coast is lined with golden beaches below green Mediterranean hills and cliffs; most beaches have lifeguards, good wading waters stretching far out into the bays, as well as child-friendly restaurants. Some of the best can be found at Playa D’es Figueral on the east side of the island and near Santa Eulalia, a resort with a laid-back, cultural feel.
Activity-wise, little ones will love the plentiful playgrounds and water parks in places like Playa d’en Bossa as well as the pedalos in Santa Eulalia. For the older kids, there are watersports from snorkelling to parasailing for them to try at most beaches on the north and west coasts. I’ll take a paddle board thank you very much. Can you imagine paddle boarding in that beautiful water!!
If you’re happy to embrace the nosier resort atmosphere, you’ll find many packages provide pools and facilities like table tennis with children in mind, as well adult incentives like free childcare – some trips booked through operators like Thomson even offer all-inclusive meals and drinks. Though Ibiza will always be popular with teenagers and twenty-somethings, its family reputation is growing stronger every year.
