Accessorizing Your Home #HavertysHomeFashion

I have always wanted to understand and grasp the better way to “fashion” my home.  Clothes and makeup come to me naturally but ask me to style my home and I am like a deer in headlights. Thankfully Havertys has a solution for my lack of home style…their Home Fashion Workshop.  Saturday I headed to my local Havertys to get some tips on home decoration.  The topic for this workshop was “Accessories”, as someone who loves fashion I had a feeling this was going to be right up my alley.

Aside from wanting one of almost everything in the store I was ready to learn the tips and tricks to making my home fun to be in and fun to look at.  Some ideas that were mentioned that I probably never would have thought to use as part of home decoration are the Britannica Cocktail Trunk and the Tuileries Accent Chest.  Both of these pieces were definitely out of the ordinary (see below) yet would be a great way to add a little flair to a room.  Consider using the trunk as part of your living room decor, where it could double as storage and a coffee table.  The Tuileries Accent Chest is fun and looking at it can make you feel like you have stepped into Parisian flea market.  It could definitely be used in the bedroom, but instead of using it as normal dresser in the middle of your room, try making it a night stand for a distinctive look.

In your living room add a fun serving area that can double as a display area (top photo below).  Whether you have guests over and want to use the Chelsea Console Table to serve snacks and drinks (you can expand the length) or simply use it to display those fun family photos you are so proud of.  Do you have a small area in your home that you just don’t know what to do with why not fill it with a small table like the Palmer Accent Table makes for a great sitting area.  Perfect for conversations with a friend or early morning coffee.  Using the customizable Parson chairs, you can really make a sitting area that is utter perfection.

Don’t be afraid to mix wood shades.  It’s so easy to take one shade of wood and have a room that is full of monotonous tones.  Try something like the Toulouse Display cabinet (perfect for showing off those shoes and handbags mind you) with the Corsini Accent Chest.  The two completely different tones when paired with other accessories can make a room the perfect conversation piece.  If you are a bit scared to go with two different tones then venture out of the plain jane dresser and use something that has beautiful detail.

Mixed Wood Tones

Your house is an expression of you, why not make it fun and beautiful.  Let others see your style!  If, like me, you may need a little guidance in home fashion then be sure to check out your local Havertys for the next workshop they are having!
