I eat and cook with brands I know and love. Several of the brands I use in my day to day life are part of the ConAgra family. So I rounded up my family for a day of food and memory making. Gathering up ingredients galore along with some Chef Boyardee, Eggbeaters and Hunt’s Tomato Paste I was ready to hit the kitchen running. I even had all the accessories a good chef should have, see….
I love to cook and I really love to cook homemade Italian especially my Italian grandmother’s sauce and meatballs. For her recipes I needed Hunt’s Tomato Paste and Eggbeaters. And I admit I used the egg beaters for a little dessert too, but after a long day of cooking I went for the boxed dessert, I had made enough from scratch. For our bash we noshed on pasta with homemade sauce, hand made meatballs, the taco-roni we made before, and brownies…a good party isn’t a party until brownies are involved you know. Before I continue I want to share a few random facts I think are interesting…
- Chef Boyardee was a real person who wanted to make the best sauce and pasta dinner, like what he served in his Cleveland, OH restaurant). His real name was Hector Boiardi. It’s been over 85 years, but Chef Boyardee continues the tradition of sharing quick and easy meals made with authentic recipes, no preservatives, and only quality ingredients.
- Hunt’s tomatoes are grown in Oakdale, California, and have been naturally steam peeled. They also contain no artificial ingredients or preservatives.
- Egg Beaters are real eggs minus the yolk. (This was news to me). They are a heart-healthy option to eggs from the shell. Egg Beaters provide the energy and nutrients your body needs without all the calories, fat, and cholesterol you find in shell eggs.
Check out this informative sheet that gives you a little more insight:
I pride myself on using great products when I cook and these products have been or will be a staple in my kitchen. Check out all the goodies we made (for photo of the taco-roni, click link above to take you to old post). We had pasta sauce, meatballs, brownies. And you can see in our time capsule the kids each put a photo of themselves as well as a little something else.
I can’t share the super secret sauce and meatball recipe with you because frankly I don’t even know it myself. It’s not something I have written down, I just cook it out of habit. It’s like my hands know just how much I need and they do all the calculations, which is a good thing since math has never been my strong suit. I will say a staple for the sauce and the base ingredient is Hunt’s Tomato paste. For the meatballs it’s eggs, however, this time we switched it out for the Eggbeaters so we could be a little more healthy and no one was the wiser. We also used the Eggbeaters in our favorite boxed brownie mix and as you can tell from the photo I couldn’t keep the hands away before taking a photo. If you do want some recipes with calculations using some of ConAgra’s products head over to Ready Set Eat and see all the yumminess they have to offer.
After filling our bellies my household family, as well as the other guest, all went out back to bury the time capsule. As noted my phone died and my camera was out on loan, so I don’t have more photos than you see above. My kids put a few photos and notes in the time capsule and the others attending had the option of adding a note as well. Once everyone was done we buried it our yard and covered it with bricks so in 5 years (or if we redo our yard, whichever comes first) we can pull it out and look back at the memores we made.
Finally, we took the cans from cooking and made pots for our tomatoes and cilantro and marked off a tiny spot in our backyard to plant away. We planted and we can’t wait for our new veggies to grow, this is pending yours truly here, who has no green thumb whatsoever, is able to keep them alive. I love fresh veggies and to think I could use them in future recipes of my famous salsa is just making me smile a smile of excitement. We had such great time visiting, eating, storing memories that I hope to make it a pretty regular occurrence.
Cooking with products from ConAgra is such second nature to me. I use it in everything mentioned here as well as homemade salsa and so much more. The brands they have are brands I’ve known and loved my whole life and I venture to say my kids will feel the same way since it’s what they know. So, if you could pick anything to store in a time capsule today what would you pick and why?
I wrote this review while participating in a campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of ConAgra and received products to facilitate my review and a promotional item to thank me for my participation.

I use EggBeaters a lot and if I don’t have any on hand, I use eggs from a farm nearby.
I’m particular about natural foods too
Your homemade sauce looks delish!
Your sauce looks great! I love the little chef hat too!
I did not know that Chef Boyardee was a real person. Now I am in the mood for meatballs 🙂
