Happy New School Year w/ Nestle Family. My Resolution.

Nestle Family We have been in school for almost a month now! After the long summer I know I was sure ready for it, minus the having to get the kids up so early. I think deep down my kids were ready for it too despite their “I don’t wanna go back to school”. We all know deep down they love it….right?!

With back to school comes homework, reading, sports and all the other things I as the mom, get to juggle. When Nestle Family asked me what one of my new school year resolutions was, the answer was simple….making a schedule that works for me & the kids. Summer is kind of our “free time” with no school, no sports, we don’t have a set schedule unless there is an appointment. That all changes when school begins.

Whether we are going to a teacher meeting, heading to the soccer fields, doing homework, or one of the million other things that seems to pop up with the beginning of school, we are busy. So for us we have to make a schedule and stick to it best we can. Here where I live we have a split school system. K-5 go from 7:15-1:15 and 6-12 go from 9:15-3:15 so scheduling time for snack, homework, sports, and dinner is a necessity to keep my sanity and the kids happy. Luckily the benefit to having the split school hours helps big time with my scheduling.

Here is what a day in my home looks like (these are the days with soccer/gymnastics):

  • 4 a.m.: I wake up.  Absolutely not by choice someone please tell my body this is not fun anymore.  Though the benefit to this is I get some stuff done online and in home since I really only have about 4.5 hours for errands and such with the split hours
  • 6:30: Round one of wake up & getting dressed begins, unless one forgot to take a night time shower then it is 6:00 a.m.
  • 6:50: Breakfast and down time until we leave for school.
  • 7:05: First round leaves for school
  • 7:30 Round 2 of wake up, shower, unfinished homework the middle schooler has commences
  • 8:50 Leave for school
  • 9:15-1:45 Mommy time to blog, clean, run errands anything I need to do sans kids
  • 1:45 Kids home, snacks
  • 2:15-3:00 Homework
  • 3:45 Middle schooler home, snack.
  • 4:00 Homework
  • 4:45 Get dressed for and leave for soccer
  • 5:00-7:00 Soccer Practice
  • 7:15 Dinner and relax (especially for middle schooler who goes all afternoon) and do nightly 20 minutes of reading
  • 8:00 Start bedtime routine
  • 8:30 Lights out.
With us having soccer practice three nights a week I have to make sure I let them have time to do homework, have a snack right when they get home.  I have never been much of a strict schedule person but this year it’s a necessity for us.  I would like to nail it down because as much as I try we dont’ always hit the times I want like I listed above.  Overall it goes smooth but there are days when I forget to do something and let me tell you when you have this much going on it throws a big kink in things.  So one of our new school years resolutions is definitely having a schedule and doing our very best to stick to it.
Oh and check back in a day (or two to get specific) for a Back-To-School Giveaway courtesy of Nestle.
