We have all heard the term vacation I am sure. Then came along staycation. Now we have the fun and local daycation. What is a daycation exactly? Very simply it’s a day vacation in your local area. Rather than going somewhere for a week on a vacation, or staying over night somewhere for a staycation, a daycation is a one day (no overnight) adventure.
I love this concept and living 5 minutes from a beach as well as 25 minutes from one of the best vacation spots a daycation is something my family does quite often. Though I never thought about the term until SoyJoy contacted me about joining their campaign, to show how families don’t have to travel far or spend money sleeping somewhere but rather finding things to do right where we are at.
SoyJoy sent my family a daycation pack to help us along. With the new soyjoy pineapple bars to snack on, backpack and camera in tow we loaded up and headed to Big Kahuna’s water park. We live about 30 miles from this fun water park so it was the perfect place to go.
You can imagine the excitement on my kids faces to know we were gonna spend all day splashing, sliding and spending time together. Fun, sun and family time a day of perfection if you ask me. We decided to go on my daughter’s birthday and let her bring a friend. We played in the kiddie area, rode down the lazy river, twisted our way through that yellow slide you see there. The smiles on the kids faces was definitely one for the books. And we didn’t even have to go somewhere far or overnight to feel like we were escaping.
We ended the day on a sweet note with nothing other than heaven …..

I hope to go to Gettysburg for a daycation. It’s only an hour away, and very easy to go up and back in the same day! 🙂

I live about 2 hours from Hannibal, MO and I know it’s a longer drive and kind of a stretch but it’s a really fun place to go on a daycation. It’s fun to go to their water parks but even more fun to go on the tourist trap Mark Twain home tours and white wash the fence, etc. I love it and it’s always been something my family enjoys to do together.

We are fortunate to have a lake 5 minutes from our house. My boys love to go there and enjoy the water and play equipment. They also have tennis courts, and LOTS of room to fly kites! LOVE it. The picnic tables and trees allow for an ALL day visit. We would take our daycation there. All that fun so close to home!

I am not a sun person and though it looks like we live equally close to the beautiful white sand beaches, I seldom frequent them. I like going early in the morning & walking the beach, looking for shells or later in the evening – when it is “cooler” (relatively speaking). I would use my daycation to go walk the beach, hopefully find shells, eat breakfast at someplace overlooking the beach and then maybe take the grandkids out for a while. They also love to go to the mall and ride the merry-go-round.

For my daycation I would go to Michigan Adventures. I went once when I was in middle school but I didnt have much fun because on our first day there I experienced menarche. I only rode one roller coaster so I would love to go again and actually have fun and enjoy myself.
