We are definitely beach bums around these parts, that means 99% of our summer, when we go out, is spent at the beach. If it weren’t for work we would be outside all day every day. While we love the beach, sometimes it can get a little bit “meh”. Sure waves are fun, but how about a fun day of twisty slides, awesome lazy rivers, and adventures galore! That’s exactly what Big Kahuna’s Water Park in Destin, Florida offers!
Living locally, we tend to visit Big Kahuna’s a few times during their season. This year my daughter was finally able to ride everything in the park, even the big dark slide, as she calls it! This was a big day for her, and the smile after she emerged was enough to make me want to buy a lifetime pass!
As always it’s fun for all ages, and there are plenty of places to relax out of the water too. Rent a cabana or find one of the hidden areas (though I can’t tell you where they are, just in case you go when I do, I want to have my spot LOL) to stow your stuff. Even though my kids are tiny, they still have just as much fun going down the kiddie slides as they do the big slides.
I am partial to the lazy river. This mom does enough walking around at home (or the beach) that every time we go to Big Kahuna’s I prefer to hop on a tube and float the day away. However, that would not be much fun for my kids. So, we all go down every slide at least once. The tiki river run (the yellow slide below) is one of our family favorites. You can go down in a single tube or a double tube. It’s fast, twisty and will have you screaming with delight as you get soaked.
There are rides and areas for the littlest kids who maybe aren’t quite ready for the big slides, to the crazy thrill rides for those adrenaline junkies! The two white slides and red tube you see above are actually being redone, so they will be even better than they already are! They are fast and furious, which is right up my alley!
If you are a bit too chicken to submergere yourself into the water, do what I do each time and go down either the Rhino Rapids or the Thunder River first. These raging rivers will get you wet as you enjoy curves, twists and drops that take you down a hill through the heart of the park and deposit you into one of the lazy rivers.
Check out this video I made during our trip (from last year, didn’t have my waterproof case this year) so you can see some of the slides first hand:
Once you’ve played and worked up an appetite, they do have a food court (or if you order a cabana you have a personal waiter who will take care of all your ordering). With sandwiches, pizza, salads, and so much more there is something there you will enjoy noshing on. With the cabanas you get your own locker to store your valuables, but fret not, if you don’t rent a cabana they do have lockers for rent!
If you get tired of the water park (um, who really ever gets tired of a water park) they do have an adventure park! The adventure park includes mini-golf, go-karts, a sky-coaster, and the cyclone. So, whether you want wet or dry fun, Big Kahuna’s is definitely the place to go the next time you are in Destin!

Big Kahuna’s Water Park is ginormous! I’ve been to a few water parks, but never one as nice as this one looks. The slides look exceptionally fast and fun. If I’m ever out that way in the warm months I’ll have to stop by.
Looks like a fun place. Too bad we are not in Florida. But we do have a few waterparks here. I think we are actually going this weekend to one.
With all the warm weather in Florida, a Water Park would be a great way to cool off and beat the summer heat. We are actually thinking of heading to Florida next year for a few months.
That looks like a lot of fun. When I was younger I loved to just float along. The slides were fun but I just loved to swim and float. Not much has changed as I age.
How wonderful living so close to the Big Kahuna Water Park! This is such a great giveaway. If we lived closer we would enter. We’ll have to add this to our to-do list when we get to Destin.
I do not live in FL so I RT. We are not a water family. THese rides terrify me.
That looks like a killer water park! My kids would love that.
Awesome! We love waterparks! Cannot wait to visit one this summer! Looks like you all had a blast!
I would want to live in Florida just so I could be close to water parks such as this one. It looks like so much fun!
We love water parks….this looks like such a fun time. I wish I lived closer
Wow, it seems like you had a wonderful day at a beautiful place. The photos made me want to get the family up and out to an amusement park.
we’re beach and water people too. This place looks amazing
Awesome! We would have so much fun with the kids there. I’d love to win!
I am an amusement and water park junkie. Except I have only ever been to a few in my life. I live in Trinidad and we don’t really have parks as big as these. Ours are boring compared to this.
That looks absolutely wonderful. It’s been chilly here this summer, but they say the heat’s finally coming.
These water parks are just amazing now days. You could spend a whole week in one and never get bored. So much fun!
The place looks wonderful I would love to visit, thanks for the fantastic giveaway
Oh my gosh! That water park looks like so much fun! Our kids would have a blast!
