It’s a few weeks into the new year and so many of us want to make this year the best one yet. One of the ways we can make it the best one yet is to work on ourselves. Because when we are the best version of ourselves that we can be, working on everything else just gets a little easier. Living a healthier lifestyle can sometimes seem daunting. When we think healthy we think big changes and tend to give up before we even get started. Today I want to share with you some easy tips for living healthier in 2016!

The first tip is to make a plan. Getting healthier requires dedication and a set plan. If you wing it, chances are you are going to give up before you get started.

The second tip, and probably one that is the hardest for me is to drink more water! This seems simple enough, but so many of us, myself included, don’t drink enough water. Keep a bottle with you all day and refill it as you drink. When you are wanting to eat, but just finished a meal not long ago, it could be your body really wanting water. So many times our health goals are focused on the food we forget to hydrate the way we need to hydrate!

The third tip is to get active! Being active is so important to a healthier you and is one of the significant health goals we tend to take on. Just because it’s one of the bigger ones, doesn’t mean it has to make you miserable. Find something you love and pour yourself into it.  Whether you are one who wants to get outside and walk trails, head to the gym, take an adult dance class or brave a hot yoga class, make it something you will enjoy. Because when we enjoy the activity we are going to give it so much more than something we “have” to do!

The sixth tip is to get some zzzz’s. Not getting enough sleep can wreck havoc on the body. For us to be able to function at full capacity our body needs time to “regroup”, and that’s where sleep comes in. Lack of sleep can cause premature aging and let’s be honest, who wants to age before they have to!

The final healthy goal tip for 2016 is to learn to say no. So many of us tend to overextend ourselves helping others. While I think helping others is vital to a healthy lifestyle (you know the do good to feel good) doing too much for others and not enough for ourselves can have a damaging effect!
