Summer Car Care Tips

Summer time is full of travel and with our family of five that usually means driving wherever our trips take us. Airfare is just too much to add into the mix when we have to worry about lodging, food, and all the other expenses traveling brings. We use our van because it gets us there but we have to make sure it is in the best condition it can be in (which right now is debatable and why we are looking). Today, I know I am not the only person (or family) gearing up for summer travel so I wanted to share a few summer care care tips with you!

  1. Check your tires and their pressure.  Make sure the tread is to the thickness it should be.  Don’t forget the pressure,  an over-inflated tire can cause hydroplaning due to less contact with the road, an under-inflated can wear wrong and cause you to blow out on the side of the roade.  Definitely be sure to check tires and don’t skimp when it comes time to replace.
  2. Check hoses and belts.  There are very few things worse than breaking down on the side of the road because a belt or hose was on it’s last leg before your trip, but nothing was done about it.  Make sure to check all the belts and hoses before you leave so you don’t run the risk of overheating and make it safely to your vacation location.
  3. Change the air filter.  I’ll fully admit to this being one of the most neglected parts of my vans upkeep.  I just don’t think about it honestly.  I am trying to be better at that, especially with us driving the car to vacations, because a clean air filter is better for your fuel mileage.  More distance from my tank….yes, please.

We learned the hard way what happens when we skimp and go for the cheaper tires, they don’t last as long and in the end can cost more money than buying better tires up front.  If you are in need of new tires, check out the new Hankook Tires – Ventus S1 Noble2.
