As a blogger you would think I would know the important of backing things up. Â I mean ALL bloggers know that if you don’t back up your blog you are going to lose a lot of work (especially if you blog daily) and that would just plain suck! Â Same goes for everything stored on your computer. Â I mean could you imagine the heartbreak you would feel if you lost thousands of pictures, 7 days worth of music, movies galore and over 400 apps. Â Yeah well that ALMOST happened to me, luckily some computer whiz was able to grab all my stuff off my hard drive even though it was crashing.
Did I learn my lesson? Â Well…yes, but I didn’t do anything to ensure it didn’t happen again. Â Until now. Thanks to Collective Bias I got a Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Portable Drive. Â Now all my little files are safe and sound…breathing a huge collective sigh of relief, okay so maybe it’s not collective since it’s just me but whatever. Â What do I love about this portable drive, for one thing it holds 500 GB of stuff so I could back up all my files on it, wipe them off my computer and then still have plenty of room to do it again. Â Talk about some storage room, my house could use that kind of room!
Another benefit of this little beauty (which matches my MacBook by the way, see even computers can accessorize and still look cute) is that it works with both PC’s and Mac’s. Â I am one who has shied away from the drives I came across in Walmart because of them only working with PC’s or needing to be reformatted to work with a Mac. Â Sorry but I am not technical and knowing me I would wipe my hard drive and then have no drive and nothing on my computer. Â With the Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex that is not a worry. Â The first time I used it I simply plugged the USB into my MacBook and back up I did.
Tell me that isn’t simple!
With the Seagate GoFlex you can use a USB 2.0 or upgrade to use the USB 3.0, Firewire 800 or powered eSATA by just pairing the drive with the appropriate upgrade cable.  Also, you can store AND access files from both Mac’s and PC’s *some reformatting may be required depending on software*.  Operating systems you can use the Seagate GoFlex on are:
- Windows® 7, Windows Vista®, Windows® XP (32-bit & 64-bit) operating system or
- Operating system Max OS X 10.4.6 Tiger or higher, 10.5 Leopard or 10.6 Snow Leopard (the 32-bit kernel).
Weighing in at less than a pound this package may be small but it packs quite the punch where storage is concerned. Â I mean have you ever seen a normal computers hard drive and how big it is! Â Our dell was only a 120 GB drive and this little guy holds 500GB. Â To put this in perspective this is about how much a Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex can hold: 63 HD movies, 222 standard movies, 125,000 songs, and 250,000 photos. See good things do come in small packages. Â Over at Walmart.com you can get your own for less than $90.00 (before shipping and tax). Â That’s definitely not much when it comes to saving precious memories and files that you have worked hard on (did I mention I lost my media kit and have yet to rebuild it).
So what are you waiting for? Â Don’t be like me and wait until you almost lose everything before realizing the importance of backing up your files.
*Disclosure: I received the portable drive courtesy of Collective Bias. Â No monetary compensation was given. Â Reception of product does not and will not influence my opinions. Â As always opinions are 100% my own and honest!
