As part of a 3 month campaign with Mom Central I am a test drive mom for a networking site just for kids. Â If you have kids like mine they are fascinated with the aspects of facebook when they see me on. Â Well with the diverse ages on facebook it’s not really a place for children or even teens. Â In comes Yoursphere. Â Children can connect with others while parents have the overall say on what their child can do on the site.
Yoursphere is geared toward teens/tweens and no one over 18 is allowed to have a profile. Â Putting safety first is what Yoursphere is about. Â Here are a few of the things I, as a mom, love about Yoursphere.
- They require parental consent
- They verify the identity of the parent providing consent
- It’s limited to kids through teens 18 years of age.
- Kids under 13 can friend those in the same age range, teens can friend teens. Â So a 12 year old will not be allowed to be friends with an 18 year old and vice versa.
- The “parent dashboard” allows access to everything a child under 12 does. Â As well as manage the “family” account.
- Kids connect based on same interests: sports, music, fashion, academics, performing arts, travel, animals & pets, art and photography, etc.
What can kids do on Yoursphere?
- -They can create their own “spheres†or web communities based on their unique interests.
- -There are weekly and monthly contests.
- -With a credit/rewards program, all members are rewarded for their positive interaction within the community and then they can redeem their credits for real-world rewards (movie tickets, ipod, gift card, music, shopping spree)
What makes Yoursphere Different?
- Kids are educated about online safety with daily site internet safety reminders
- With the monthly parent newsletter parents are kept informed on the site and the going ons.
Yoursphere is free though you can purchase the gold membership for $4.95 a month. Â Head over today and see what it’s all about, using referral code YSMC-0029 . Â If your kids are like mine they like to be connected, I love that now they have a kid geared site to allow my kids to network with like minded kids. Â Check back in a few weeks for my thoughts on the sign up process as we delve into a bit of Yoursphere.
“I wrote this review while participating in the Yoursphere Test Drive program by Mom Central on behalf of Yoursphere. I will receive a free lifetime Gold membership on Yoursphere.com, Yoursphere t-shirts, and a $50 American Express gift card to facilitate my review. Reception of product(s) does not influence my view, they are always that of my own.”
