With two boys, I wasn’t sure what was in store for me when I had my girl. I fully admit to wanting a little girl who was a princess and into all frilly things, which is exactly what I got, but as an added bonus I got a girl who wasn’t going to sit on the bench and watch the game, she was going to be in the game…or cheering for the game.
To say my daughter is active in an understatement. When she was younger she played soccer, then moved onto dance for a bit, now she is hardcore into gymnastics and cheer. In fact, as I type this post she is practicing for an upcoming competition. She loves to play and watch sports. Whether getting cheered on by her family or doing the cheering when she isn’t out there on the field, she definitely gives meaning to “Play Like A Girl”
While I am happy to say that I got my dainty, princess girl, I am even happier to say she is rough and tough just like her brothers. Sometimes she puts them in their place showing that running and sports aren’t a boys (or man’s) world. I love that she is that way because it’s important for girls to know they can do anything they want. In fact, she has been really inspired by a little girl who plays on the team she cheers for. She thinks it’s super cool to watch a girl play (and hold her own) a sport that is generally thought of as male.
I think sports are so important for our girls today. Building not only their strength but their esteem as well. Verizon thinks “Playing like a girl” is cool too. They have a campaign going on right now where they want to hear from parents who are bursting at the seems to share their daughters achievements in athletics. I don’t know about you, but I love to brag on my kids so this is right up my alley. Visit www.verizon.com/playlikeagirl and share your favorite stories about your daughter. Make sure to share a photo or video too!!
