Who Is The Steak Master In My House? #SteakOver

As spring approaches it’s time to have some family fun and that usually includes quite a bit of grilling. When we moved back to Florida in 2010 we didn’t bring our outdoor grill with us. Instead we used out indoor grill. That is up until I found THE BEST way to cook steaks indoor.

I headed to Walmart and picked up some of their USDA Choice Premium Beef, which is available in a variety of cuts, to have a steak cook off against the man I love. With only 1 in 5 steaks good enough to call Walmart Choice Premium Beef (approved by the USDA for quality), I just knew we were getting something good for the steak off. I admit, I was quite scared to do this against the hubby because he has always been the grill master. We chose the top sirloin for our grill off, it’s my favorite cut, so at least if I lost I could eat like a winner.

It was time to season our steaks. The hubby went with garlic, salt and pepper. I prepared two different seasonings. One was Dale’s, Tony C’s, & Lawry’s seasoned salt. The other was Coarse salt & steak seasoning.

Steak Off

Not only did the way we prepare our steaks differ, but the way we cooked them. While my husband stuck to the indoor grill we had used in the past, I went with the cast iron skillet.

Finally we rounded up our taste testers, our younger son & daughter.

Steak Off Challenge

My son said my husband’s tasted like garlic mashed potatoes and he like both of mine too, in the end his favorite was my steak with the Dale’s, Tony C’s & Lawry’s. My daughter tasted next and said she liked all three too but her favorite was the one with steak seasoning and salt! What does that mean??? You guessed it, I WON….with both of them. I was pretty proud. Regardless of who won, it was a great dinner and I know a big part of it was the meat being top quality.

It seems I’m not the only one competing, check out the information about the firefighters having their own steak-over challenges.

Local firefighters from eight different cities will compete in the Walmart Steak-Over Challenge presented by Kingsford® Charcoal, Dr. Pepper® and A.1.® steak sauce to determine who has the best steak-grilling chops in town.

Shoppers who attend will have the chance to join in the festivities, taste test Walmart USDA Choice Premium steaks, sample Dr. Pepper and A.1. steak sauce for free, and cast their vote for best steak.
