Once upon a time, there was a girl, who thought she was part of the Big Hero 6 squad! In fact, she had the poses down just right. As she had her super hero photo taken, she was complimented on her moves “Love your moves” said the mystery woman.

As time went on, the girl wanted to replicate each super hero to the best of her ability and so she did:

And then this is when the best part happened…as the girl got ready to replicate the amazing Honey Lemon, the beautiful lady who paid her such a nice compliment was getting ready to walk by. Being the kind woman that she is, she stopped to let her pass…only to be asked by the kind lady if she would like to take photo together. That’s when I get to the part of the story where I get to say “OH MY GOSH, I just totally got to take a photo with Honey Lemon”

Because, you see, readers, the day we were getting to chat with the voices of Go-Go and Honey Lemon from Big Hero 6, that’s exactly what happened. I was being my goofy self, mimicking the characters positions, when Genesis Rodriguez, asked me if I would like to take a photo together!! Mimicking her character of course. What a way to go into this amazing interview! I was already excited about interviewing the women behind the voices of Go-Go and Honey Lemon and this just took it over the top! Now, what did the ladies have to say about being a part of Big Hero 6? Glad you asked!

What was your favorite part about playing the Character that you played?
Jamie: My favorite is that Go Go doesn’t say a lot at the beginning of the film, but when she does say something, it’s very on point and it’s quite sassy. She’s described to me as the Female version of Clint Eastwood, in the group. It was just fun to like sass it up, and if I said a line with too much of a smile, the Directors Chris and Don would tell me to do it a little bit meaner. I really feel like I was acting a Fool and I was getting paid for it.
Genesis: It was the biggest blessing to have this cast, warm and loving Characters, because you’ll never get to play that kind of part in a live action thing. I can speak for the both of us, we’ve been huge Disney fans all of our lives and we’ve been Princesses. I literally would comb my red hair in restaurants as Ariel. It’s like a dream come true to be able to play these strong Female Characters and bring that down to future Generations.

Love Genesis’ themed nails!!
Honey Lemon’s character looks Caucasian, but then there were moments in the film where she had a Japanese accent to me. Like especially when she said Hiro, it sounded very Japanese. I was wondering if there were, if that was, if she had a Japanese background as well.
Genesis: So Honey Lemon, is very Filipino. The beautiful thing about it is, we come in all colors. I feel like she pronounces it that way because it’s more endearing, she cares about him.

On voicing an animated character before this, had either of them done it?
Jamie: Oh, nothing on this caliber. You know, once you’ve done a Disney Animation Film, it’s like kind of the top of the top, you know what I mean? I did do a Cartoon for a different Network and it was a half hour, then everyone got fired, like the Cast, the Writers, everyone. That was kind of the worst experience.
On playing a strong female characters:
Genesis and Jamie: Talking further on stereotypes, what I love about this film is that there is no stereotype. You know, it kind of breaks all of those boundaries in terms of being a Nerd and being not cool, this is the absolute opposite of that. In terms of strong female Characters, Honey Lemon and Go Go are so different from each other and yet they both represent strength in their own way. What’s great about Disney’ is, it’s not like a Cookie Cutter example of this is a strong woman. They both come in different shapes and sizes, and different shades and what not, and that’s what I love about this.

I love fashion and from the looks of it, both of these women do to, so of course you know I had to know what they wore to their audition. Because some tend to wear things that get them into character and I wanted to know if they did the same.
Genesis: What’s weird is that I did the audition exactly like Honey Lemon and I hadn’t seen the Character at all. I took a very bold Fashion choice. I did socks in heels and I did an undershirt with a Dress over it. I don’t dress like at all, I don’t know why I went like that and then I saw Honey Lemon and the way she dressed and thought “This is freaky.” I couldn’t have landed it better.

Did they have a favorite scene and character (besides their own and baymax)?
Genesis: Oh with my Character? I think the most interesting would be when they all have their new gear and they’re testing it out and kind of feeling it out and all trying to take them out. As far as favorite character, Fred is hysterical. What’s funny is that T.J. is such a great Comedian. He’s totally Fred.
Jamie: Go-Go has the best line in the Movie, I think, which is “Woman Up.” I liked Wasabi. I feel a lot like him, because I’m like looking at these phones and I want to line them up. He was a Worry Wart and he cares about Safety and the Safety of everyone

It was so much fun to sit and chat with the ladies who voiced these awesome characters. They are definitely someone I would love for my daughter looks up to (both their characters and themselves). I love how their characters show it’s not about fitting in all the time, but it’s about doing what’s right and standing out, embracing who you are even if the world doesn’t always seem to!
