Operation Christmas Child is a great way to give back this holiday season!
One of the things I try to teach my kids is giving back and every year at Christmas we try to do a little extra something so that in some way we can help someone who may not be quite as fortunate as us. This year I am proud to say we were able to create a box for a child through Operation Christmas Child.
Operation Christmas Child is part of Samaritan’s Purse International Relief. Here’s a little more about Samaritan’s Purse:
For over 40 years, Samaritan’s Purse has done our utmost to follow Christ’s command by going to the aid of the world’s poor, sick, and suffering. We are an effective means of reaching hurting people in countries around the world with food, medicine, and other assistance in the Name of Jesus Christ.There mission statement really touched me due to my religious beliefs:
Samaritan’s Purse is a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world. Since 1970, Samaritan’s Purse has helped meet needs of people who are victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease, and famine with the purpose of sharing God’s love through His Son, Jesus Christ.The organization serves the Church worldwide to promote the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.
When it came time to create or buy a shoebox to give to a child in need my kids and I decided to go the online route. We figured they have been doing this so long they know better what to put in the box than we do. Adding the fun of toys to the essentials like toiletries, clothing, and more, the box they put together (with our input) will be just what a child needs this Christmas.
First you pick the gender (boy or girl), then the age group (2-4, 5-9, 10-14), last you pick 5 goodies the child will enjoy that are packed in addition to the necessities and accessories:
After you are done with your picking you head over to add a message (if you like), choose your payment information (credit card or e-check), enter your information and then submit:
Operation Christmas Child will then send the box to a child in need! This is such an important thing for me to get involved in and get my children involved in. I want them to always be sure to help another person when it’s in their power. Whether that is fixing a shoe box and taking it to one of the drop off locations or donating food to a local pantry, giving back is a lesson I want to make sure is passed down from generation to generation.

Operation Christmas Child allowed my family to pour into a child’s life that may not have gotten anything this holiday season! Be careful though, if you are like me you will be moved to tears as you think about the excitement this child will have when they open the box you sent!
