Why Google + Hasn’t Won Me Over Yet!

It’s all the rage, the newest thing in social media and I have to admit my curiosity peaked so I headed in to the invite only Google + to see what the hooplah was about.  While I think it’s cool and all I can’t say I am going to drop facebook just yet or maybe ever.

I have seen blog posts and tweets from people give the following reasons of preferring the + to facebook:

  • I get all my notifications in my inbox.  You can do that on facebook as well, go to your settings and pick the notifications you want in your inbox.  Me, I prefer just to go to the site instead of having my inbox flooded .
  • I can pick which circles see my status.   I can go into the little lock button and pick who I want to see my status. In essence it’s the same thing right!
  • I only have to see certain circles updates.  Create a list.  When you are on your home screen, go to the drop down and pick which list you want updates seen from and there they are with no one else.
I am not sure I like the design of it yet, something about it isn’t sitting right. I don’t like the fact I can’t yet create something that is equal to my blog fan page on facebook over at google +.  I don’t see a whole lot of differences that makes Google + stand out in my eyes just yet.  Only time will tell if that happens.
I want google to win me over like they have with other things.  I don’t want to be let down like I was with Buzz and Wave.  I don’t want this to be just another way google tries to beat out the competition and fails. That’s a lot of money wasted.  So prove me wrong google and show me some reasons why I should enjoy google + more than facebook other than it being the shiny new toy to play with.
I do have some invites though if you want to check it for yourself, first come first serve. Leave your email below when you comment and I will send it over! I would love to hear some things you like or dislike about Google + compared to facebook. What in your opinion makes it different and better/worse?

I like that Google+ is a chance for me to start over with who I choose to be friends with. I also like being able to sort my friends from the beginning instead of trying to go through over 1500 people now. I think Google+ is still in its very early stages and will get a lot better. Facebook and Myspace shared the market for years before people finally started leaving Myspace and only using Facebook. I would guess in 5 years or however long the same thing might happen between Facebook and Google+.

I so want to see what all the hype is about but wasn’t “invited”. If you have spare invites I would be oh so thankful!

I got an invite while on vacation at the beach so my brain just wasn’t in it and I just can’t seem to get into it, either! I love Twitter and Facebook and so far I’m just not seeing the benefits of “one more” social media outlet!

Well, since it was only last year that I sent my first text message I know I’m usually wayyyyy behind on the latest things.

That being said, since you offered an invite I’m game. I do like what Becca said about it being a clean start.

    Thank you!

I’m not convinced I like it, either!
