What’s On Your Summer Reading List?

I absolute love to read and I know I am not the only one out there. I am always looking for good books to pick up. I thought I would share with you some of the books I just finished, are currently reading or are next on my list to read.

First up is one I read awhile ago but felt the need to share as I am starting the sequel to it now. Shanghai Girls: A Novel by Lisa See is amazing. Set in the 1930’s two sisters leave China to make new lives for themselves in Los Angeles. One sister has a secret that could work against them in their quest for a better life. Together they figure out a way to make everything work out though it’s not without some secrets and trials.

The follow up to that is Dreams of Joy: A Novel we see all grown up. Set in 1957 China, it picks up where Pearl and May left off. Joy, fueled by anger heads back to China to find her father unknowing of what is waiting for her. I can’t say how good this book will be as I said I am just starting it. I am sure I will not be disappointed.

One more by Lisa See, is actually the first book of hers I ever read, Snow Flower and the Secret Fan: A Novel (Random House Movie Tie-In Books). About two intimate friends (laotong or “old sames”) living life in 19th century China with strict rules on everything from when to speak, foot binding, marriage and where a woman’s place is, this book kept my attention from cover to cover and had me so emotional I felt like I had experienced each moment myself. This is actually being made into a movie, which will be released later this year.

Lisa See is an amazing writer and the way she captures past eras and the emotions of her characters pulls me in. I read her books and am flooded with happiness, tears, anger, and so many other emotions along with her characters. She is definitely a talented writer

So far they are amazing and I highly suggest them if you are looking to deepen your knowledge of the Bible and enter into a new level of prayer.
