Stepping Back In Time On Buena Vista Street #BraveCarsLandEvent

Imagine stepping off the train from Kansas to LA in the 1920’s.  That’s what the man behind Disney did and now you can too.  Take a stroll down Buena Vista Street and look through the eyes Walt Disney, taking in the sites he took in during that first step in the town that would give him his start.  We had a chance to sit down with Lisa Girolami, a senior show producer and director with imagineering,  to get to know a little more about the iconic Buena Vista Street.  She told us they intentionally set this part of the park that way.  So when you enter, you can hopefully encompass some of the feelings Walt, himself, experienced when stepping off the train into 1920’s LA.

I loved feeling like I had stepped back in time with the soda shops and stores that had the look and feel of the era Mr. Walt himself headed for his dreams. I have to say one of the highlights of my last day was standing in that area watching the parade. It was so neat to feel as if you were on the streets from the 1920’s and watch your favorite characters come by. To be honest I was okay and not overly emotional about my kids this trip, until this moment. As I sat and watched the characters go by in the parade, I thought about how much fun this exact moment would be for my children and my eyes welled up with tears.   To me it really brought together Walt Disney’s first moment in LA to life with the characters we have grown to love over the years.

Not only do the stores and trolley’s bring you back in time but the people you see on the streets that are part of the Disney family do as well. It’s quite normal to see one of the red trolley’s pull up and a cast of 1920’s and 1930’s come out to give you a show of singing and dancing. A bit later you might be treated to a little show from the group Five & Dime, it’s jazz at it’s best. The whole moment of stepping from the entrance gates into the 1920’s era set up is just fun and makes you really think about what it would have been like to Walt himself. Pay attention to the little details as you are walking because there is definitely so much to take in when you are strolling down Buena Vista Street.
