You never thought you could save your sanity before the day even starts, did you? Growing up on and near a beach for most of my life one of the things I live for are seeing the sunrise and sunsets along the coast. That moment in the morning before everyone gets up. I can drive over to the beach with coffee in hand and enjoy the beauty of the sunrise, really take in how amazing and colorful it is. In today’s world, it’s so easy to take everything for granted and pass up the moments like this, the moments that are truly sanity savers.
Here are a few other of my sanity savers, let me know if you do any of these.
Soak My Cares Away
Sometimes all it takes is filling up my garden tub and stepping in, to melt away the cares of my day. A hot bath gets rid of my knots and aches and just allows me time to escape, to sit and do nothing. I find that I can always find something to do and feel the need to be busy, but the moment I sit down in my tub I can just stop and relax.
Escape Reality
I love picking up a good non-fiction book. I get so immersed in the book and drawn in, it takes me out of whatever battle I may be facing and lets me escape, even if just for a bit.
Dancing
I took dance for 15 years, it was something I LOVED to do. The love for dance has definitely carried on with me through adulthood and almost on a daily basis you can find me dancing around my house. There is just something about turning up the music, and getting my blood pumping that brings a smile to my face. I may look silly to some when I am doing it, but I always feel more calm and focused.
Taking In A Movie
Like a book, this allows me to escape for a few hours. Immersing myself in a great plot and storyline is one sure way I feel refreshed. I can’t think of one time I have walked out of a movie theater feeling frazzled, even if I went in that way.
Prayer
Sometimes all the sanity saving I need comes from a few quiet moments spent in prayer, it’s a place I go to get refreshed.
Family And Friends
The ones I am closest to can be the ones who calm me down, allow me to vent, or just let me cry on their shoulders. There is no way I would get through life without them.
So, those are some of my sanity savers. Because I know I could use a few more ways to relax, I would love to hear some of your sanity savers.

I love watching the sun rise and set.
It’s such a beautiful time of the day.
I love sitting by the pool with a book!
A good book is just such a good escape!
Great ideas. And some days are so bad you need all of the above!
How right you are 🙂
A nice, hot bath without anyone else in ear-shot.
I agree, though they only happen about once a year here. My kids still don’t understand the concept of leaving me along for 20 minutes haha.
Going to the pool or taking a nap!
Yes sitting on the beach and falling asleep is so nice too.
I love a good sunset. I’m a night owl and rarely see a sunrise. We just had a thunderstorm come through and that’s fun.
I wish I were one of those people who get relaxed during storms I am the opposite LOL
I love that you have that beauty so close to you. I’d love to be able to drive to the beach whenever I wanted. I also agree on the prayer aspect. It’s definitely a big help.
Yes I love being close to the beach, it and prayer are serene combo 🙂
I love cuddling up with a good book and a hot cup of tea.
You sound like my kind of girl 🙂
Just a long shower does the trick for me. That and some of my husband’s delectable hot chocolate. You make me want to kick back and just exhale!
I’ll need him to make some of this hot chocolate if I ever come to visit LOL
That photo is gorgeous! Prayer is my sanity saver. It helps me feel at peace.
Seriously, I have no idea where I would be without it.
Your open faithfulness is inspiring and wonderful!
Aww thanks Liz, that means a lot to me 🙂
I wish I had stuck with dancing, I loved it.
We shall dance in Orlando 🙂
I also like to get immersed in a good book.
I tend to get lost in them 🙂
I could do all of those but what relaxes me the most is when I talk to God while I’m soaking in the tub or letting the water run down on me in the shower. That’s the best “quiet” time and my mind doesn’t wander like it usually does.
I do that too 🙂
What a beautiful photo and I so agree with everything.
Love the picture!
Excellent tips Toni. It’s so important to take a moment and pause when your day is going haywire.
I do all of these, too. I don’t think I could make it through most days without prayer. 🙂
Exercise, a good strong cup of coffee and a talk with my sister are all lifesaving for me!
I love watching the sunrise and sunset here in california on the beach. It’s beautiful.
Oh I agree. These little moments too are what make life “special”. Though I can’t say I’ve ever escpaed in a non-fiction book – unless it was Lisa Marie Presley’s auto bio “Elvis and Me”….
Relaxing outside, hugging my daughter or playing some mah jong online help me chill out.
