Recently I had the chance to host a Reading Is Fundamental “Bookraiser” along with other bloggers throughout the nation. Reading is Fundamental or RIF is the largest children’s literacy non-profit in the United States. Â A little bit about RIF taken from their site:
OUR VISION:
Our vision is a literate America in which all children have access to books and discover the joys and value of reading.
OUR MISSION:
To motivate young children to read by working with them, their parents, and community members to make reading a fun and beneficial part of everyday life. RIF’s highest priority is reaching underserved children from birth to age 8.
Did you know that nearly 2/3 of low income families in the U.S. own no books.  That breaks my heart as a parent.  I know some of the best times my kids have learning is when they are reading (to themselves, to me or I to them).  RIF is doing what they can to help make sure that number is not growing but rather declining.  As  a hostess I organized a “bookraiser” to add to the books Nestle provided to donate to a local school.
With goodies from Nestle (or coupons to be exact to get the goodies), friends and books it was sure to be a fun time. Â But you know me, I have to kick the fun into high gear. Â So it was optional but I suggested to dress up as your favorite book character. Â Want to see who came….
Snow White, Cat in the Hat, Dorothy, Little Red Riding Hood and of course the little ones who are showing off just a few of the books they brought.  Yummy food, friends and donating to a good cause is definitely something to smile about.  Some of the goodies we got with the coupons Nestle provided and the food we cooked along with it:
The adults had a blast visiting with one another and the kids played and played until they were all worn out. Â Toward the end of the day we had a special reading time with none other than Dr. Suess…
Raising lots of books to help with a good cause and getting to visit with family and friends. Â I must say this bookraiser was a success! Â Next up donating the books. Â To which school will they go and learn more about RIF!

🙂 Had a great time! You throw the best parties and for such a great cause!
What a great program! I absolutely love the costume idea and the food. There is nothing like throwing a party to get people involved! Nestle definitely made the right choice in picking YOU!
