Quotable Sunday: Truth

Quotable Sunday

Hi Everyone! Welcome to your weekly edition of Quotable Sunday. In case you are new this is a day to post one or more of your favorite quotes and share with the other quoters. To join in simply create a new post on your blog with some favorite quotes and grab the link to that post and add it to the Mister Linky below. I look forward to reading all your quotes.

Today my quotes are about truth, while in the end it always comes out it doesn’t mean it won’t cost you a few friendships along the way. However sometimes if friendship ends when the truth comes out, it probably means someone wasn’t your real friend to begin with (ahh the wise words of Toni san) and you are not losing anything. Feelings are hurt of course but your real friends and time will heal that..you are talking to someone who has had to deal with a lot of that the last year…especially the last few weeks. I used to add my thought after each quote but haven’t done this for quite some time however today I think I shall again add my thought after each quote.

Truth quotes:

If a thousand old beliefs were ruined in our march to truth we must still march on. ~Stopford Brooke
Just because you believe something or someone doesn’t mean you should, sometimes reevaluation is key. There are times I reevaluated and got some bad things and/or people out of my life.

Every truth passes through three stages before it is recognized. In the first, it is ridiculed, in the second it is opposed, in the third it is regarded as self-evident. ~Arthur Schopenhauer
Welcome to the circles of my life, when I stand up for something that is right or against something that is wrong this is precisely the road that awaits. Ridicule, opposition and then ahh haa! Eventually all people see bad for what it is. It took me a very long time with some things in my life but eventually you do.

The truth will set you free, but first it will make you miserable. ~Attributed to James A. Garfield
Nothing to say but I whole heartedly agree. Of course if there was no lie to begin with I guess there would be no miserableness LOL.

We do not err because truth is difficult to see. It is visible at a glance. We err because this is more comfortable. ~Alexander Solzhenitsyn
How much more would you rather turn a blind eye than deal with knowing something or someone in your life is not good?? Or take responsibilities for our actions?

Man has always sacrificed truth to his vanity, comfort and advantage. He lives… by make-believe. ~W. Somerset Maugham, The Summing Up, 1938
This describes some people to a T, what a miserable life that must be. Never being liked for who they really are.

I tore myself away from the safe comfort of certainties through my love for truth – and truth rewarded me. ~Simone de Beauvoir
As mentioned above, I have had to cut people out of my life because I sit back and watch them lie. Have I ever lied yes, but I have made right what I lied about. It’s not hard to admit your faults…okay yes it is but you will be liked for the real you, not the pretend facade you have on every day.

The greatest truths are the simplest: so likewise are the greatest men. ~Augustus William Hare and Julius Charles Hare, Guesses at Truth, by Two Brothers, 1827
Thank goodness I am simple, I knew there was a reason for that LOL.

We swallow greedily any lie that flatters us, but we sip only little by little at a truth we find bitter. ~Denis Diderot
Thinking this is what makes it easier for some to sit back and watch behavior that should not be tolerated, or maybe it’s because they have like mind as the behavior they are watching. It’s easier to believe the lie than see the truth. EIther way it’s sad.

Now it’s your turn, share you quotable sunday posts! Have a happy Sunday everyone and remember the Truth shall always set you free, even if it causes some loneliness and hardships telling it.

Excellent quote choices, Toni – I like your personal summation of each one, too. Like Martha, it’s a hard choice, but this one grabbed me:

Every truth passes through three stages before it is recognized. In the first, it is ridiculed, in the second it is opposed, in the third it is regarded as self-evident. ~Arthur Schopenhauer

Isn’t that the truth? 😉 Hope things are going better for you! ((HUGZ!!))
