where at least I know I’m free.
And I wont forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.
And I gladly stand up,
next to you and defend her still today.
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land,
God bless the USA.

If SOPA makes it back to the table and/or PIPA passes that could be one of the last times you see or hear that song as well as many other things on my site. SOPA is the “Stop Online Piracy Act” and PIPA is the “Protect IP Act”. I do agree with the point of piracy needing to be stopped, however this bill is more of a control issue rather than something that will fix an issue. Even if you don’t do anything outright like I just did (by posting a song lyric, or showing a video of your child singing a pop song) if you write a post and it’s linked to someone who is infringing (think Youtube with all the karaoke versions of songs) you could be in trouble.
If the bill passes it would be a huge step back for the free country we all love to be a part of. Well, I know I like freedom, if I didn’t I could easily up and move to a country who controls every little move. If a commenter says or links to something this bill consider infringement and you don’t catch it, your site could be shut down. This is a slippery slope that goes nowhere good in the end. It’s controlling people, what they can/can’t say, post or talk about. In the end, the ones they are trying to stop will still figure out a way to do what they are trying to stop. I get there is a problem but this is not the solution.
Many sites are going completely black to show their opposition to this bill. Due to things I have going on I will not be, but I wanted to participate so you can see the ribbon up top and on the bottom, each of those will tell you more about or take you to a site about SOPA. And here is a little infographic for your learning pleasure:
When did America become okay with losing a freedom? Do you agree with SOPA & PIPA or are you against it? Voice your opinion and take a stand.

It just stinks. I can think of bigger problems the government could be addressing right now — UGH!
I’m pretty shocked that this is going on. I’m not sure what I would do if my blog was shut down.
The thought of this makes me sick!!
We’re blacking out tomorrow to raise awareness. I can’t imagine what our work will be like if this bill passes.
First our internet voice, the the radios and tv’s…. this has to be stopped!
My blog will be black between 8am – 8pm EST today… because SOPA can NOT pass!
There needs to be better accountability. Shutting down a website because of a link that may lead to another site that is infringing isn’t the way.
Wow this is nuts, what are they thinking?
It scares me for all fellow bloggers, what if it passes? I hope it doesn’t. *sigh*
Why is this still alive. Its crazy. It’s amazing how much pull lobbiest have!
Thanks for standing up for our freedom of speech! I also blacked out my site that day. Now I just hope it works.
It seems like it made an impact for sure since they shelved both of the bills to re-evaluate. Woo hoo for strong voices.
I sure hope this gets kicked aside soon!
As of yesterday it was shelved to re-evaluate, woo hoo!!!
I think and hope it’s dismissed?
I know as of yesterday they were both shelved so that’s a wonderful thing.
I am still in shock that this has been in the legislature after everything else they need to be doing.
