Matthew West And Chris August CD Review {Music}

Christian artists make up quite a bit of my music collection. Through the radio in my car, cd’s, or online streaming music I love to listen to Christian artists. The messages behind the songs always lift me up and encourage me. They get me through dark places and just bring a smile to my face when I most need it. More often than not, God uses music to speak to me. When I am feeling a certain way I can turn on the radio and a song that fits perfectly to the situation I am going through plays.

Being a dancer for 15 years, music has always been a big part of my life and I foresee it being that way for years and years to come. I recently had the chance to check out a couple artists and their new CD’s and I can’t say enough about the way they spoke to my heart. I got to hear the newest from Chris August and Matthew West. No, not a collaborative CD…but one can hope one day because I love both of them.

music First up is Chris August’s album “The Upside of Down”. It’s such a great CD that is is on repeat quite often. The lead single from the album, Center of It, is one of the songs that touched me the most. Talking about how no matter what is going on in our lives, God is always still in the center of it. Which, for me, is so encouraging.

When I am going through good times I want to remember it’s because God was in the center of it, He made it happen. When I am going through a tough time and not sure why God is allowing it to be tough I remind myself He is still in the center of it, holding my hand and walking me through it. There is always a reason for what is going on in your life and God is always in the center of it, if you’ll let Him. There are so many other songs on this CD like “A Little More Jesus” and “Restore” that just really lift me up.

music Matthew West is another favorite christian artist of mine. I really started liking his music when I first heard “The Motions” a few years ago. The message behind that song was one I wanted to live by..I didn’t want to just go through the motions I wanted to make sure I was living wholeheartedly for God.

With his newest album, Into The Light, Matthew touches on some moments that will sit and make you think. “Forgiveness” will make you think twice about holding a grudge. “Moved By Mercy” is a song I could have written myself. Talking about how there are times I want to get away from where I am at (not literally) in my spiritual walk and be moved by mercy…go to a new level. “Waiting On A Miracle” is all about pushing through and holding onto the hope no matter what while you wait on a miracle.

I could seriously go on and on about each song on both CD’s but I won’t…why…because you need to get out and get these CD’s for yourself. If you are looking for music that will really lift your spirits and speak to you, then you need to pick up one (or both) of these CD’s. Both artists have such amazing voices and the messaged behind the songs are wonderful. So, what are you waiting for, go on out and look for Matthew West’s “Into The Light” and Chris August’s “The Upside of Down”!

    My oldest child is very involved in our church’s youth group, and they ONLY listen to Christian music during tween/teen events. I should think about gifting this to the youth group for their lounge.
